Section 9 state qualifier

New York state track and field rankings leaders Jadon Spain of O'Neill, Collin Gilstrap of Monroe-Woodbury, Karrie Baloga of Cornwall and Lily Beattie of Warwick all qualified for the state Federation championships on Saturday at the New York Armory.

The top two individual winners and third-place finishers who met the state-meet standard will advance to Saturday's state meet at the Ocean Breeze complex on Staten Island.

Spain won the 55-meters in 6.45 seconds and the 300 dash in 35.71. Gillstrap won the 3,200 in 8:57.39. Baloga won the 3,000 (9:23.80) and Beattie was second in pole vault.

Double winners in the girls meet were Pine Bush’s Madison Williams (long and triple jumps) and Kingston’s Daniella Johnson (shot put, weight throw).

Additional boys winners include Jaden Bisono of Goshen (55 hurdles); John Urciuoli (1,000), Kyle German (long jump) and Aakas Yarlagadda (shot put) of Monroe-Woodbury; Aidan Ifkovits (weight throw) of New Paltz; Adam Furman of Tri-Valley (1,600); Constentino Proscia (high jump) of Port Jervis; and, Henry Reinke (600) and Damani DeLoatch (triple jump) of Beacon.

Additional girls winners include Cornwall’s Caigan Leonard (55 hurdles), Emma Burich (300) and Kerry Murphy (1,000); Kessler Hirsch of Minisink Valley (55 dash); Valley Central’s Ava Carsley (1,500); Monroe-Woodbury’s Mia Sisilli (race walk); Ellenville’s Amelia Benjamin (high jump); and, Alexandria North of Lourdes (600).

Section 9 Class A meet

The Monroe-Woodbury boys and Cornwall girls captured team titles at the Section 9 Class A championships at West Point on Saturday.

Monroe-Woodbury easily rolled past Kingston, 131-49, for top honors. The Cornwall girls posted 133 points, beating Pine Bush (82) and Monroe-Woodbury (73.5).

Cornwall All-American Karrie Baloga swept the 1,500 (4 minutes, 29.38 seconds) and 3,000 (9:42.74), winning the latter by 56 seconds. She also ran on the Dragons’ triumphant 3,200 relay team. Also winning for Cornwall were Caigan Leonard (55 hurdles), Emma Burich (300) and Fracnes Teague (600).

Madison Williams of Pine Bush was a triple winner, claiming the high jump (5 foot 2 inches), long jump (17-10) and triple jump (38-7).

Collin Gilstrap of Monroe-Woodbury was a triple winner, sweeping the 1,000 (2:35.23), 1,600 (4:19.83) and 3,200 (9:44.15). Ronaldo Rodriguez won the 600, Rohan Sonakya the weight throw and Aakas Yarlagadda the shot put for the Crusaders.

Azaziah Marshall of Valley Central won the 55 meters (6.56) and 300 (36.35). Kingston’s Joe McDonald Jr. won the high jump (6-2) and long jump (21-0).

The Section 9 state qualifier will be held Feb. 25 at the New York Armory.

Section 9 Class B championships

The Tri-Valley boys and Rondout Valley girls captured team titles at the Section 9 Class B indoor track and field championships late Friday at West Point.

Tri-Valley posted victories from Adam Furman (600-, 1,000- and 1,600 meters) and Van Furman (3,200) to outdistance New Paltz, 91.5-80. Rondout Valley was third.

Aidan Ifkovits of New Paltz was a double winner, in the shot put and weight throw, as was Highland's Constentino Proscia in the high and long jumps. Recent Section 9 record setter Jadon Spain of O'Neill won the 55-meters in 6.40 seconds.

The Rondout girls got wins from Jacqueline Kennedy (55- and 300 meters) and Kayla Oakes (long and triple jumps) to beat New Paltz 102-73. Sectional newcomer Our Lady of Lourdes, which won two of the three relays, was third at 53.

Recent Section 9 record setter Amelia Benjamin of Ellenville easily won the high jump at 5 feet, 6 inches - her new record is 5-9.

The Section 9 Class A championship was contested on Saturday.
