MILAN – Steve Porter has been Milan’s varsity girls track and field coach for 45 years.

So, it might be fair to call him an old dog.

But this old dog isn’t afraid to try new tricks.

Porter and Milan tested the limits of track technology Tuesday by hosting a Huron League quad meet.

A meet featuring four teams is nothing new for Milan.

What was new was how the meet was scored. The four teams each competed in dual meets against each other. The results had to be tabulated and scored as 10 different dual meets.

Ansel breaks record

ERIE – Jackson Ansel broke an Erie Mason school record that had stood since 1984 during a 112-25 win over Sand Creek Tuesday.

Ansel ran 1:57.20 in the 800 meters to better the old record of 1:57.5 set by Bernie Mominee in 1984.

"I’ve had this date marked for a while knowing it was our last home dual meet of the year and I could rest him fully for one big race in front of a home crowd,” Mason coach Alex Russeau said. “The weather was perfect with a cloud cover coming over on a hot day and a light breeze off the lake. Our kids were all over the track cheering him on. He has worked very hard over the winter and it paid off today.”
