TRACK HONOR ROLL: Holliday girls place third at Texas Relays
In case anyone was doubting the legitimacy of the talent on the Holliday girls track team, the Lady Eagles further proved themselves this weekend at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.
Four Lady Eagles made the trek to Austin for the event, participating in the distance medley race. They placed third with a time of 12:16.45 despite being from the smallest UIL program competing. Prosper won the event at 11:53.51, with Jenks High School out of Oklahoma taking second at 11:54.1.
The distance medley is an event rarely seen at high school track meets, consisting of four legs, just like tradition relays.
The first leg is 1,200 meters. It was run by Jaycee Lyons, who was a state qualifier in the 1,600 and 3,200 last season.
Freshman Breegan Blowers ran the second leg of 400 meters despite specializing in sprints at most meets. Blowers has the best 100-meter dash time this season with a 12.13.
Bailee Bowers took the third leg of 800 meters. The distance is her specialty. She currently owns the area’s second-best times in the 400 and 800.
Finally, two-time state champion Hannah Spears owned the final leg, running 1,600 meters. The Lady Eagles were in eighth when Spears started running. She bypassed six others and edged McKinney Boyd’s Allison Fortman by two seconds to get her team into third place.
Spears returned to the track Saturday morning and set the school record in the 3,200 with a mark of 10:58.25. It was good enough for her to finish 10th in the race. The Texas Tech signee was the top finisher from a Class 3A school as she continues her bid for two more state championships, and potentially state meet records, in May.
Obviously, all four of these girls appear on the first edition of the 2022 Track Honor Roll.
Here’s a few notes about this year’s Honor Roll and how it’s constructed.
►All times, distances and heights have been taken from official results from area track meets. Have a dispute about a time? Or do you think your athlete should be on the list? Email Jonathan.hull@timesrecordnews.com with official results. This can be provided with a link to a website or with a picture of a hard copy of the results. If I have a question about the results, I will consult with the coach of your program.
►There is no differential made between FAT and hand-timed results. If the mark was included with the official results submitted, then it is included regardless of timing method.
►An athlete competing on JV or in junior high is noted. But once a JV competitor runs once in a varsity race, the JV designation is removed. There is no designation between JV and varsity in relay races. If a JV relay team runs a better time than its varsity, that time represents the program.
►Running event results are always listed to the hundredth of a second. If results only provided to the tenth of a second, that runner will be listed below others with comparable times. For example: If Runner A has a submitted 100-meter time of 10:99, and Runner B’s submitted mark is 10.9, Runner A will be listed first.
►Some results were submitted without first names. Only the last name is listed in that case.
