Two police vehicles struck in four-vehicle crash on I-64 in Hampton

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) – Virginia State Police are investigating a four-vehicle crash on I-64 Friday morning that involved two state police vehicles.

According to officials, while two state troopers were working on the scene for a previous crash, a tractor-trailer headed westbound on I-64 struck an SUV, went on the right shoulder and struck one of the trooper’s vehicles. The SUV was then pushed into the second police vehicle.

The west right center lane, right lane and right shoulder were closed on I-64 near Big Bethel Road Overpass as a result of the crash.

Images provided by VDOT shows several police cars and crews working to redirect traffic.

Traffic could be seen backed up for a distance.

According to police, one state trooper and three people in the SUV suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash.

The second state trooper and the driver of the tractor-trailer were uninjured.

The crash remains under investigation.
