Tractor-trailer hits underside of bridge in Taylor, briefly closing Oak Street

Jun. 28—A tractor-trailer struck the underside of a railroad bridge over Oak Street in the borough Monday, forcing the street to close briefly.

Crews responded about noon to the incident near the intersection of Oak Street and Stauffer Industrial Park Road, where the tractor-trailer hit the bridge owned by the Reading & Northern Railroad, Borough Police Chief Stephen Derenick said. Tractor-trailers en route to the industrial park frequently hit the bridge, he said, noting it's been struck three times in about the past month.

The tractor-trailer made it out from under the bridge, but suffered significant damage. There were no injuries and the driver was cited. The incident closed Oak Street for about 2 1/2 hours, Derenick said.
