Tractor-trailer rolls over at Windham intersection

Aug. 4—WINDHAM — The driver of a tractor-trailer experienced minor injuries following an accident on Windham Center Road Wednesday afternoon.

According to State Police Trooper First Class Sarah Salerno, the accident was reported to Troop K, which is based in Colchester, at approximately 2:15 p.m.

She wrote in an e-mail that the accident occurred in the area of 156 Windham Center Road (Route 203). Windham Center Fire Department Assistant Chief Roger Miles said the tractor-trailer rolled over at the intersection of Jerusalem Road and Windham Center Road.

He said one person, the driver, received minor injuries, but that person refused transportation to the hospital. Miles said there weren't any passengers in the vehicle.

He said he expected the road to be shut down for several hours.

Miles said the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection was going to have a company pump out the fuel from the fuel tanks on the tractor-trailer.

He said that was necessary before the truck would be placed upright.

The road was closed from Route 32 to Route 14 in Windham Center.

Members of the state police truck squad responded to the scene and were investigating the accident. Miles explained the squad handles investigations for large vehicles, including tractor-trailers and dump trucks. In addition to Windham Center firefighters, Willimantic Fire Chief Marc Scrivener said Willimantic firefighters responded to the accident with an ambulance.

Miles said South Windham firefighters also responded.
