Trader Joe's in Hanover is moving. Here's what to know
HANOVER − A grocery store with a small footprint that's part of a chain with a cult-like following will be moving into a bigger space before the end of the month.
The Trader Joe’s at 1775 Washington St., currently next to Panera Bread, will be moving mere steps south to a bigger storefront in the former Office Max. The new location in Hanover Crossing will have the same address, but the store will be between Mattress Firm and Petco.
It is scheduled to open Tuesday, Nov. 28, moving from an 8,000-square-foot space to one with more than 12,000 square feet.
“We are busting at the seams and want to provide a more enjoyable shopping experience for our awesome, loyal customers,” reads a sign outside the existing store.
Trader Joe’s first opened in California in 1967 and has grown to more than 500 stores across the country. There’s one other location on the South Shore, in Hingham. Quincy may be the next to get a location, although a Trader Joe's spokesperson did not confirm that.

The smaller size of Trader Joe’s stores, compared to traditional grocery stores, is keeping true to the brand, explained the company’s marketing team in a podcast episode about why their parking lots are small (it corresponds with the square footage of their stores).
Back Bay in Boston is home to the smallest Trader Joe’s in the U.S. But residents and workers in the neighborhood will also be able to rejoice in the addition of new, larger store opening a half-mile away.
