Traffic alert: Hole on Orange Avenue could cause slowdowns near Downtown Orlando

If your Tuesday commute takes you into or near the SODO district, you might give yourself a little extra time.

A hole opened up on a busy stretch of South Orange Avenue Monday, the Orlando Police Department said.

Around 8 p.m., city officials said its Public Works staff responded after being notified about a roadway depression.

Tuesday morning, a hole was visible on the left travel lane near West Grant Street, between Ace Hardware and Chipotle.

OPD said the hole’s circumference was roughly 4 feet.

Drone 9 was at the scene since early to monitor traffic conditions.

The city told Channel 9 that police have secured the area and that one northbound lane and one southbound lane will remain closed until officials can fully assess the situation.

Police said they expected some traffic impacts until repairs could be completed.

The city added that its initial investigation found that a sanitary sewer line appeared to experience a leak, which caused the depression.

A spokesperson said there was no risk to businesses and no evacuations were necessary.
