TRAFFIC ALERT: Lincoln Drive bridge closed in Rush Twp.
Sep. 15—The Lincoln Drive bridge over Reading & Northern Railroad is closed until further notice, PennDOT announced Friday.
Lincoln Drive traffic is closed between routes 54 and 309 and is being detoured onto Route 309, according to PennDOT.
Expect delays and use caution driving through the area.
A recent inspection of the structure showed significant deterioration at the connection between the main structural steel supports, PennDOT said in a release.
The Lincoln Drive bridge is a steel girder-floorbeam structure built in 1924. It is 38 feet long and 25.2 feet wide. It has a condition rating of poor due to deterioration and was posted with a weight restriction of 24 tons/33 tons combination, according to a previous PennDOT press release.
According to a previous report, the bridge is scheduled to be replaced, with construction set to begin in early 2025. Completion is expected in the fall of that year, though plans are subject to change.
