Traffic alert: Street near Target in Hollywood to stay closed after fiery plane crash

The crash of a banner plane in Hollywood that killed the pilot will close a stretch of busy road through Thursday.

What to know about road shutdown and detours

Timeline: North Park Road will remain closed from Hollywood Boulevard to Fillmore Street until at least 5 p.m. Thursday, Hollywood police said, after the small plane crashed and caught fire Wednesday near a Target shopping center.

Hospital: The area is east of a major hospital, Memorial Regional. If you’re heading to the Johnson Street hospital, stay clear of the crash area and take an alternate route, police spokeswoman Deanna Bettineschi said. Alternatives include 40th and 46th avenues, to the west of North Park Road. Johnson Street also intersects with U.S. 1.

Police: The crash site is just north of Hollywood Police Department headquarters.

Highway/Trains: Interstate 95 and the Tri-Rail station, to the east of the Target center on Hollywood Boulevard, are not affected although traffic in the area could be heavier than usual.

Shopping: The Target center can be accessed on Hollywood Boulevard. The plane went down just north of Hollywood Boulevard, the Target on one side of North Park Road and office buildings and restaurants on the other.

Investigation: NTSB investigators are working in the closed-off area. The mangled and charred wreckage remained on the street early Thursday to the side of the Target store and parking lot.

Damage: The plane crash did not affect buildings or injure anyone on the ground, authorities said.
