Will buses and trains be affected by Trump court appearance?

Mass transit: Miami-Dade Transit says Metrobus, Metrorail and Metromover will operate normally on Tuesday. Of course, buses will be just as vulnerable as cars when it comes to street closures caused by the former president’s route to and from the courthouse.

Bus delays: The agency reported late Tuesday morning that Route 836 Express “may experience delays due to road closures in the downtown Miami area.” Delays also are reported for Routes 120 Beach Max, 119/S, 93 Biscayne Max, 9, and 3.

Trump on the move

Possible routes: Trump is scheduled to appear at the Willkie D. Ferguson Courthouse, 400 N. Miami Ave., at 3 p.m. Tuesday. He’ll likely be coming from Trump National Doral, Northwest 87th Avenue and 36th Street. When he’ll leave his Doral resort for downtown is kept secret due to security.

Time frame: To be on the safe side, assume Trump will leave Doral in the early afternoon. Expect the usual pocket of steady South Florida traffic flow, from about 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., to shrink. Whatever route the Trump motorcade takes will be shut down in advance.

Avoid: If you can, in the early afternoon, avoid Northwest 36th Street/41st Street; Northwest 87th Avenue in Doral; the Palmetto Expressway (State Road 826), especially from Northwest 58th Street to the Dolphin Expressway (State Road 836); Florida’s Turnpike in Northwest and West Miami-Dade down to the Dolphin; Interstate 95 and other main streets.

Leaving: Where Trump will go after the courthouse and before back to Doral or the airport wasn’t known officially. But Trump’s motorcade got off State Road 836 at Northwest 27th Avenue southbound and headed in a direction that indicated he’d head for Cafe Versailles, near Southwest Eighth Street and 37th Avenue. A crowd of Trump supporters had been there for several hours.

Downtown Miami street shutdowns

Police detours: Miami police say beginning around 10 a.m. Tuesday, Northeast First Avenue between Third and Fifth streets in downtown Miami will be shut down. Just after 11 a.m. for just about an hour, they also shut down Miami Avenue between Third and Fifth streets for the investigation of a “suspicious object.”
