Truck driver killed on I-435 in Johnson County after crash with abandoned vehicle: Police
The driver of a commercial dump truck died Friday afternoon after a rollover crash on Interstate 435 in Johnson County, according to police.
Officers were called in response to the crash on the interstate, just south of Midland Drive, shortly before 3 p.m., Shawnee police said in a statement late Friday afternoon. The driver collided with an unoccupied pickup truck, parked on the highway shoulder, while headed south, police said.
The dump truck driver was ejected during the rollover and suffered fatal injuries, police said. Shawnee’s traffic unit was still investigating on Friday evening.
No other injuries were reported. Police expected traffic on the highway would be affected for several hours.

Heavy traffic backups were spotted along I-435 Friday as commuters were redirected to a single lane on the three-lane highway. Police were advising drivers to avoid the area.
