Traffic to Gas Works Park may get more congested starting February

Seattle Public Utilities will close Stone Way North, between North 34th Street and North 35th Street, to traffic as early as Feb. 6 for at least one year.

The closure is next to the North Transfer station and near Gas Works Park.

There will be a detour going around the closure through North 34th Street, Wallingford Avenue North, North 40th Street, and the open part of Stone Way North, pictured below.

SPU will be constructing a conveyance pipe that will connect a sewer outfall pipe in Wallingford to the future Ship Canal Storage tunnel, according to SPU.

There will still be access to businesses, and local roads such as Woodlawn Avenue North, Woodland Park Avenue North, and North 35th Street will stay open.

A two-way bike lane on the east side of Stone Way North and sidewalks on either side of the street will stay open.

Occasionally, there will be closures at the intersection of Stone Way North and North 34th Street when travelers will be directed to other detours.

Eastbound North 35th Street, between Stone Way North and Interlake Avenue North, will close as early as summer 2023. The future closure is required for SPU’s contractor to dig deep trenches for sewer conveyance pipes safely, said SPU.
