Universal Pictures released the official trailer for “Renfield,” starring Awkwafina, Nicholas Hoult and Nicolas Cage.

The horror-comedy film, directed by Chris McKay and written by Ryan Ridley, follows Renfield (Hoult) as he attempts to leave his “toxic relationship” with Dracula (Cage) after falling in love with traffic cop Rebecca Quincy (Awkwafina).

In the trailer, Awkwafina makes her mark in an action-packed scene filled with spiders, surprisingly deadly serving platters, forks and guns.

“You’re like the guy that gets the villain’s postmates,” Rebecca says of the vampiric relationship between Renfield and Dracula.

As the bond between Rebecca and Renfield grows stronger, the traffic cop attempts to help her love interest escape the deathly grips of Dracula.

Joining Universal Pictures’ “Dark Universe,” “Renfield” is part of the “Classic Monsters” series of reboots announced in July 2014.

In contrast to the gothic theme of 2014’s “Dracula Untold,” the upcoming vampire film will take a more comedic approach.

The film also marks Cage’s first appearance in a major studio live-action film since “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (2011).”

“Renfield” is set to premiere in theaters on April 14.
