Train in Kansas derails after colliding with semi truck on tracks

A semi truck was spit from its trailer when it was struck by an oncoming train Monday morning in southeast Kansas.

The collision was reported around 10:05 a.m. in Woodson County at 80th Road about half a mile west of Prairie Road, Kansas Highway Patrol Crash logs show.

The driver of the semi truck, 63-year-old Gregory Lewis of Leon, was heading east on 80th Road and failed to yield at a stop sign before crossing the railroad tracks, according to the report.

The semi truck was struck and split by an oncoming train. The semi came to rest on the other side of the tracks in a ditch, the crash log said.

Lewis was taken to the Allen County Regional Hospital in Iola, Kansas with suspected minor injuries.

Photos posted on social media by the Woodson County Sheriff’s Office showed that the train was derailed.
