Trains Delayed After Fire Melts Signalling at Level Crossing During UK Heatwave
A wildfire melted signalling equipment and damaged tracks at a level crossing in Sandy, England, causing disruption to a main line train route between London and Peterborough, Network Rail said on Wednesday, July 20.
The fire broke out during a record-breaking heatwave in the United Kingdom on Tuesday, where temperatures exceeded 40°C (104°F) for the first time.
The damage will need complex repair work, Network Rail said.
