Trains, plays and more: Six things to do this weekend in Sioux Falls

With snow on the ground, winter has officially arrived, and the weekend event calendars are starting to reflect that.

There's no shortage of events this weekend including plays, concerts, an arts and crafts show and an expo.

Here are six things to do this weekend in Sioux Falls.

Trains at Christmas

The Free-Mo Modelers model train layout during the Trains At Christmas Model Railroad Show and Swap Meet Sunday, Nov. 22, 2015, in the Expo building at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds in Sioux Falls. "We keep getting bigger and bigger," said Wayne Hanson, with the Sioux Valley Model Engineers Society who organized the event. More than 500 hundred adults--Hanson said they don't count the children--made their way through the Expo building on Saturday during the Trains at Christmas event, and in the past more than 1,000 have attended the weekend-long event, Hanson explained. "It's the enthusiasm of the little kids that makes it all," said Judy Payne, of Apple Valley, Minn., who runs the B&J Railroad booth, which is made of LEGO blocks and takes about 10 hours for two adults to set up.

The annual model railroad swap meet and train show will be held in the north section of the EXPO Building at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds this weekend.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., on Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. There will be model train layouts from around the area, including a number of vendors with train-related items.

Admission for the event is $7 per person and is free for children under the age of 12 when accompanied by an adult.

Hours for the festival are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday. On Saturday, artwork will be displayed from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
