The Traitors has just broken another impressive ratings record.

Last night's episode, which saw the banishment of season standout Paul, became the most-watched in the show's history, with 4.4M viewers tuning in.

The number was up 400,000 on the previous night’s record, which had seen Diane discover she was the Faithful who had been poisoned.

Deadline reports that last season's episodes were watched by an average of around 3 million viewers, with the numbers steadily building.

This season, the numbers have been higher, with this week’s episodes up on even the first season's finale.

After tonight (January 19), there are just three episodes left of the second season – the show airs on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday on BBC One at 9 pm, and all episodes are then available on iPlayer.

Last night's episode was the most dramatic, as Traitor Harry turned on Paul, essentially throwing him to the wolves at the roundtable.

Following the betrayal, Paul told The Traitors: Uncloaked visualised podcast: "It was a genius move.

"When I watched that it blew me away. I know what’s happening from my perspective of being in there, but I don’t know what’s going on behind my back. It was like Star Wars, Darth Vader [with Luke] – 'Harry I am your father.'

"I would never have turned my back on Harry. I promise you now. When Harry did that to me, it was a shock. I thought 'Oh no – we were going to win it.' My plan was for Andrew to go and for us to win it. There wasn’t one part of me that was going to betray Harry."
