Community members in need of social services or employment will have an opportunity to be connected to several at the upcoming Trans Pride Empower and Employ event on March 26.

Here's what you need to know.

What is Trans Pride?

The Trans Pride Empower and Employ event is an opportunity for community members to get connected to resources they need, such as health care, food services or other necessities, and meet with potential employers. Various booths will be set up, and there will also be live music.

The event is put on by the Transgender Health and Wellness Center.

"We want to get people off welfare and working," CEO Thomi Clinton said. "It's just about opportunity, and (the chance) to give and connect those people to opportunity, and hopefully some of that pays off for somebody."

Sponsors for this year's event include the Inland Empire Health Plan, DAP Health, Palm Springs Front Runners & Walkers and more.

About 1,000 people attended the event last year. Clinton said it was "great to see the community come together," especially after the COVID-19 pandemic.

When and where will it take place?

Trans Pride is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 26 at Frances Stevens Park, located at 555 N. Palm Canyon Drive in Palm Springs.

What is the Transgender Health and Wellness Center?

The Transgender Health and Wellness Center opened in 2018 with "$10,000 and a dream," Clinton said. Since then, the organization has helped serve more than 5,000 people, and has opened four locations across Palm Springs, Riverside and San Diego. The Palm Springs office is located at 340 S. Farrell Drive Suite A208.

The center provides a wide range of social services, which include linkage to care, HIV/AIDS and PrEP education, housing, employment and other support needs.

"It's good to see the community is getting employed, they're getting access to health care, they're having opportunity," Clinton said. "That's all we ask for — for anybody to have opportunity to reach their potential."
