When is it?

The transfer deadline for Premier League clubs and those in the EFL is Monday Feb. 1. The window is closing a day later than usual as Jan. 31 falls on a Sunday this year.

What time does it close?

The window will shut at 11pm GMT.

Which clubs will be active?

Newcastle United are one club that are looking to add to their squad before the window shuts, as they look to propel themselves away from a relegation battle.

West Brom are another team that will aim to be busy. Sam Allardyce is especially keen to bring in a striker as he looks pull off the great escape.

Other clubs to watch include Leicester, who although are not desperate to bring in new faces, could be tempted by the right deal. The same applies to West Ham, who are eager to keep their momentum going under David Moyes.

Which players could be on the move?

Jesse Lingard

One of the stars of the 2018 World Cup for England has fallen down the pecking order and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will allow him to leave Manchester United on loan. West Ham United are frontrunners for the midfielder, with David Moyes working with him at Old Trafford. Newcastle United are interested in taking the 28-year-old but Moyes is thought to be leading the race at this stage.

Hamza Choudhury

While Newcastle may be losing their fight for Lingard, they are in a good position to make a move for Choudhury. The England Under-21 midfielder has not played for Brendan Rodgers since getting taken off before the hour mark against Crystal Palace last month. West Bromwich Albion also have an interest but Steve Bruce landing him looks more likely. One stumbling block is that Leicester would ideally want a sale rather than a loan.

Christian Benteke

Jean-Philippe Mateta’s arrival at Crystal Palace is expected to limit the chances for Benteke in the first team under Roy Hodgson. The Belgium striker would be ideal at West Brom, where Sam Allardyce is looking for a striker. The finances around the deal will not be easy. West Brom are in the bottom three and there would be relegation clauses negotiated for any player arriving for the struggling clubs in the next days.

Moises Caicedo

Brighton have been working on the deal to land Caicedo from Independiente del Valle in Ecuador, where he has broken in the national team and had scouts from around the globe looking at his performances. Manchester United were reported to be interested in the 19-year-old midfielder but Brighton, who have a good record of getting players from South America, have moved swiftly and are set to loan the teenager straight out after sealing his signature in a £4.5million deal.

Dele Alli

Whether Dele leaves Tottenham Hotspur to get regular football is now totally in the balance. He had a tendon injury for the FA Cup win over Wycombe Wanderers but has not been playing under Jose Mourinho. His situation has not been helped by Giovani Lo Celso’s injury leaving Spurs short in central midfield, which has complicated the decision on whether to allow him out. Paris Saint-Germain have an interest in him which existed before Mauricio Pochettino’s arrival as manager.

Mourinho added on Wednesday that he expects Alli to still be at Tottenham Hotspur by the end of the transfer window, but admitted that “unexpected things can happen”.

Christian Eriksen

Leicester City made an inquiry about signing Christian Eriksen on loan for the rest of the season, but balked at his £300,000-a-week wages.

Eriksen can leave Inter Milan this month and has also been linked with a return to Tottenham Hotspur.

The Dane is a high quality player that is available. Whether or not he will return to the Premier League remains to be seen.

Andy Carroll

Getting Andy Carroll off Newcastle - who could be sucked into the relegation battle - will not be easy. However, Allardyce is keen to be reunited with the striker at West Brom if they could persuade Newcastle into a deal. Unlikely, but far from impossible.

Billy Gilmour

Chelsea midfielder Billy Gilmour is set for a six-month loan away from Stamford Bridge in Thomas Tuchel’s first week at the club.

Gilmour, 19, played in the FA Cup win over Luton Town in Frank Lampard’s last game before his sacking, with Tuchel leaving him out of the matchday squad to face Wolves in his first game in charge.

The teenager is now expected to be given a short-term move to give him regular football and give him a chance of playing at the European Championships for Scotland in the summer.
