Transfer news LIVE: Newcastle agree deal for Isak, Man Utd consider Depay, Arsenal given Tielemans hope

In the latest summer transfer news, Manchester United are considering a shock move to bring back Memphis Depay to the club. The winger has agreed to leave Barcelona and looked set to join Juventus but United are now reportedly considering a €10m offer to add the 28-year-old to their ranks, according to Marca, giving him a second chance at Old Trafford after one season with the club in 2015-16.

Arsenal retain hope of signing Youri Tielemans after Leicester lowered their asking price to £38m due to his contract situation with the Belgian’s current deal set to end this season, according to The Sun. Chelsea meanwhile are set to let winger Callum Hudson-Odoi join Bayern Munich on loan, having been linked to the Bundesliga cub two summers ago. The Blues are still hopeful of signing Everton’s Anthony Gordon – though Everton are demanding players on loan in return – and Barcelona’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Elsewhere, Cristiano Ronaldo has been offered a way out of Manchester United by Sporting Lisbon. Follow all the latest news, rumours and done deals below.

Inter move for Chalobah?

16:14 , Michael Jones

Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah is keen on making a move to Inter Milan but the Blues are not prepared to let him leave without first signing a defender to replace him.

This according to Tuttosport who report that the 23-year-old has been convinced partly due to a personal friendship with striker Romelu Lukaku.

Chalobah does not seem to have a prominent place in Chelsea’s plans for this season and the club are still working on other defensive deals to clear the way for a move.

Inter see the 23-year-old as an option to reinforce the defence without spending much if he is available on loan and Chelsea could agree to such a deal.

‘We need more players’ says Moyes

15:59 , Michael Jones

More from West Ham boss, David Moyes, who has admitted he wants more signings.

“We’re just trying to get someone who can complement what we’ve got,” he said on Wednesday. “We’ve been trying to add to a lot of areas, and trying to improve areas where we could do with adding to.

“We want to add value to what we’ve got.”

When asked about the Hammers’ bid for Lucas Paqueta, Moyes said: “I’ve lost count of how many players we’ve bid for. We’ve bid for a lot. If I told you who, you would burst out laughing”.

Moyes on Emerson signing

15:52 , Michael Jones

West Ham manager David Moyes has been speaking ahead of the second leg of his side’s Europa Conference League qualifier against Viborg on Thursday and he spoke about the Hammers’ newest arrival.

“For me, we’ve been looking for help for Cresswell for a while,” he said when asked about Emerson Palmieri.

“It has been difficult to find a player for that position but Emerson was always really high on my list. Emerson, we were able to get over the line, and I’m hoping he will show us what he can do.”

Champions League draw comes as Super League court case hangs over European game

15:45 , Michael Jones

As officials of Europe’s great clubs gather in Istanbul for the Champions League draw, it will be the first time many have been together in the same room since before Covid.

There will be some tension, and sizing up. The biggest issues by far will be football politics, rather than any old-fashioned trepidation about who they might face in the draw. That is because of a discussion that is now beyond old-fashioned, which is that the competition’s group stage is boring and predictable. It is such a fait accompli it is set to be finished altogether, since this is the penultimate season of the old round-robin format. Enjoy the pompous pageantry of the draw while you can.

The controversial “Swiss system” changes won’t actually solve much, though. You only have to glance across the continent to see how the group stage just follows a growing trend. Predictability is the way of European football now.

Antony will cost a bob or two

15:37 , Michael Jones

Manchester United have reportedly been made aware that a deal for Antony could set them back as much as €100million (£84.3m) but a ‘compromise’ figure of around €94m (£79.2m) has been mentioned also.

The Ajax forward has been chased by Erik ten Hag all summer but Ajax are reluctant to sell after losing the services of Lisandro Martinez to United last month.

Antony himself is sold on the idea of reuniting with his former boss in the Premier League but it will cost a fiar penny for the Red Devils if they are going to break Ajax’s resistance before the September 1st deadline.

A new report from The Athletic outlined the figures after United had a £67.9million bid recently rebuffed.

Newcastle’s deal for Isak

15:30 , Michael Jones

Newcastle United have reportedly agreed a deal for Real Sociedad’s Alexander Isak which could rise as high as £63m. The transfer goes against the Magpies stated objective not to spend that much on a single player but they feel it is worth it for the 22-year-old.

The offer is thought to be an initial payment in the region of £59m, with a further £4m in add-ons and Sociedad will also receive 10 per cent of any future sale of Isak by Newcastle.

The deal smashes Newcastle’s previous biggest transfer fee - which was £42m for Bruno Guimaraes.

Manager Eddie Howe will have three recognised strikers to choose from up front in Isak, Callum Wilson and Chris Wood. The Swedish international has scored 44 goals in 132 appearances for Real Sociedad.

Fofana not in first team training

15:24 , Michael Jones

Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana is currently training with the club’s Under-23s as he isn’t in the right frame of mind.

Chelsea have had three bids rejected for the Frenchman, and he didn’t play last night or on Saturday for the Foxes who are holding out for at least £80m if they are to sell the defender this summer.

The Blues remain in talks with Leicester and they hope to strike a deal for Fofana.

Luis Figo documentary reveals betrayal and lies behind transfer to Real Madrid that shaped modern game

15:16 , Michael Jones

Luis Figo’s sensational move to Real Madrid, rather suitably, begins with a fantastical story and an outright lie.

That lie is not that the Portuguese genuinely loved Barcelona, or that he never wanted to leave Camp Nou. Both of those statements were actually true right up to the day Figo was supposed to leave for Real Madrid, as a brilliant new Netflix documentary shows with some remarkable details that would be tantamount to spoilers.

The lie was actually uttered to Florentino Perez himself.

A swap deal for Gordon?

15:04 , Michael Jones

Chelsea might be willing to swap either Conor Gallagher or Armando Broja in a loan deal with Everton in order to complete their move for Anthony Gordon.

The 21-year-old has told Everton he wants a move to Stamford Bridge, but the Toffees are refusing to sell and talkSPORT believes that Thomas Tuchel might need to sweeten the deal to finally get his man.

They report that the Merseyside club are ready to renegotiate as long as either Conor Gallagher or Armando Broja are included in the deal.

Gary Neville left ‘stunned’ and ‘proud’ of Manchester United following Liverpool victory

14:50 , Michael Jones

Gary Neville says he felt ‘proud’ of Manchester United after their brilliant 2-1 victory over Liverpool at Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag’s side came into Monday night’s clash off the back of a woeful start to the season following defeats to Brighton and Brentford.

But surprisingly they managed to turn things around against their old rivals Liverpool as Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford both got on the scoresheet - cancelling out Mohamed Salah’s late consolation.

Brobbey turns down Ten Hag

14:42 , Michael Jones

Ajax striker Brian Brobbey has revealed how Erik ten Hag wanted him to join Manchester United.

“I absolutely wanted to come back to Ajax,” Brobbey told Voetbal International. “Erik also wanted to work with me again, he texted me once to see if I was open to it.

“But I thanked him nicely and told him I wanted to go back to Ajax. My friends are here, Ajax’s playing style… it just wasn’t finished yet.

“I first have to really succeed here as a striker in the Ajax first team. That’s also how the past six months have felt, when I played here on loan. After that I really had the feeling that I needed to come back.”

Herrera to return to Bilbao

14:35 , Michael Jones

Ander Herrera is set for an emotional return to Athletic Bilbao in the summer transfer window after agreeing to terminate his contract with Paris Saint-Germain two years early.

The Manchester United favourite only played a minimal role for the French side last season and was told earlier this year that he was free to find a new club during the window.

Man Utd eye moves for Kevin Trapp and Yann Sommer in pursuit of ball-playing goalkeeper

14:29 , Michael Jones

Manchester United are considering moves for Eintracht Frankfurt‘s Kevin Trapp and Borussia Monchengladbach‘s Yann Sommer to give Erik ten Hag the option of a ball-playing goalkeeper, as they also pursue a deal for Ajax‘s Antony.

The Dutch coach was hugely encouraged by David De Gea‘s performance in the momentum-shifting 2-1 win over Liverpool on Monday, and especially his willingness to come off his line, but has been considering the safety net of an alternative choice.

Trapp is especially interested in the move but Frankfurt would not sell for less than €10m and would be aggravated by having to pursue a replacement this late in the window.

Gakpo agrees personal terms with Manchester United

14:08 , Michael Jones

Man Utd have agreed personal terms with PSV’s Cody Gakpo according to reports.

Gakpo is said to be up for a move to Manchester and reports in The Sun claim United have seen an initial £34million offer turned down by PSV as they continue to pursue his signature.

However, despite that set-back, the same article states personal terms have now been agreed with the left-sided attacking prospect and should a price be agreed between the clubs he could be on his way to Old Trafford.

Ronaldo to Marseille?

14:00 , Michael Jones

French football expert Jonathan Johnson talked Sky Sports through a rumour he’d heard that Cristiano Ronaldo may be heading to Marseille.

Johnson explained: “Cristiano Ronaldo to Marseille is a story that has cropped up over the last few days. It’s become something of a social media campaign to try to get Ronaldo to the Stade Velodrome. It would be a huge coup if they could pull it off but a very difficult move.

“You look at this Marseille side and there are some moves in the offing with Arkadiusz Milik edging closer to a move to Juventus.

“There have been some issues concerning the manager Igor Tudor and the playmaker Dimitri Payet and his fitness since the beginning of pre-season.

“When you’ve got people like Djibril Cissé adding their voice to the calls to bring Cristiano Ronaldo to Marseille, it does make for an interesting last few days in France.

“Given Ronaldo’s desire to play Champions League football and move before the end of the window, who knows? They already have Alexis Sanchez there so perhaps stranger things have happened in the transfer market.”

Arsenal transfer news: Youri Tielemans, Pedro Neto, Nicolas Pepe, Moussa Diaby and more

13:53 , Michael Jones

Arsenal have enjoyed an excellent start to the Premier League season, sitting pretty on top of the table after three wins to open their campaign.

The strong start on the pitch has followed a productive summer off it as Mikel Arteta further refines his squad after missing out on Champions League qualification last season.

Gabriel Jesus has begun life in London well, already scoring twice, while Oleksandr Zinchencko also appears to have settled in quickly.

The indications are that Arteta may not be finished tweaking with his playing group, though, with a handful of major targets still linked with the club.

Chelsea still chasing Fofana

13:40 , Michael Jones

Chelsea are refusing to give in with their bid to lure Wesley Fofana to Stamford Bridge after Leicester City rebuffed a third bid for the coveted defender.

The Blues’ latest proposal, worth around £70million, was knocked back by the Foxes, who are determined to keep hold of Fofana unless Chelsea stump up a record breaking fee for the defender.

A new report from The Guardian has revealed that Chelsea have no intention of giving up their pursuit of Fofana and are talking to intermediaries in the hope a deal can be salvaged.

Newcastle close to deal for Isak

13:38 , Michael Jones

Newcastle have reportedly agreed a deal worth an initial £59m for Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak.

The Swedish forward was linked with Arsenal back in January, but a deal failed to materialise and he remained in Spain.

Isak is now seemingly close to getting his Premier League move with El Diario Vasco claiming that Sociedad have agreed to sell the 22-year-old to Newcastle in a deal that could rise to £63m.

'I did not believe I could reach Liverpool’ says Jota

13:33 , Michael Jones

Diogo Jota says he did not believe that he could reach the heights of representing a big club like Liverpool during his younger days although he thought he he was one of the better footballers around.

The Reds signed the 25-year-old forward from Wolves for a transfer fee of £40.23 million back in the summer of 2020 and since then Jota has scored 34 goals and registered nine assists in 85 appearances for Liverpool’s first-team.

However Jota has said that he never believed he would end up representing the Reds when he was a youngster.

He told Sky Sports: “From the moment that I had the opportunity, I never dropped it again. I think when we are young we always believe. But I probably did not believe that I could reach Liverpool. I just took it day by day.

“This hunger has been with me ever since I can remember. In my youth, growing up, I never played for the big teams. I had a few team-mates who went to Porto or Benfica. I had trials there but I never stayed. I was one of the better ones but never the best.”

Ampadu set for Italy move

13:26 , Michael Jones

Chelsea defender Ethan Ampadu is on the verge of joining Spezia in the coming days, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

The Wales international impressed on loan in Italy last term with Venezia and Di Marzio says Ampadu is set to return to Italy in the coming days as he does not appear to feature in Thomas Tuchel’s plans at Stamford Bridge.

The move could be completed as early as Thursday.

Conor Gallagher faces big test to prove he’s not the wrong midfielder at the wrong time for Chelsea

13:19 , Michael Jones

It is safe to say more glowing descriptions have been applied to a full debut. “It is not the day to ask about individual performances,” said Thomas Tuchel, when invited to discuss Conor Gallagher’s first Chelsea start. A 3-0 defeat to Leeds had dampened his mood.

Perhaps, however, he was simply being diplomatic. Suffice to say this had not gone as planned. Gallagher had only lasted 63 minutes and just 45 of them in the centre of midfield. He was shifted to the right at half-time and his brightest moment, a shot that almost halved the deficit, came from a more attacking berth. He was still removed soon afterwards as Tuchel overloaded with attackers to such an extent that, in effect, he ended up with a one-man midfield.

It is tempting to conclude that he failed the audition. Tuchel was asked afterwards if he required another midfielder.

“Another midfielder?” he replied, listing N’Golo Kante, Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Gallagher. But while the injuries to the Frenchman and the Croatian afforded an opening for Gallagher at Elland Road, where Loftus-Cheek started at wing-back, there is the probability one of the outstanding midfielders in last season’s Premier League is fifth-choice for his club.

West Ham target Gallagher

13:12 , Michael Jones

West Ham are reportedly thinking of making a late bid to land Chelsea ace Conor Gallagher.

The Sun claims Hammers boss David Moyes is keen to secure a loan more for the energetic England midfielder who is already being pursued by Newcastle and Crystal Palace.

But Moyes is said to be eager to add the 22-year-old’s pace and power into his team but it is up for debate whether Chelsea would want to let him leave.

United target Trapp

13:05 , Michael Jones

Manchester United have been in talks with Eintracht Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp after Erik ten Hag asked for a goalkeeper with ball-playing capabilities to challenge David De Gea.

The Sun are claiming the Red Devils are set to offer Trapp £180,000 a week to join ahead of submitting a bid proposal to Frankfurt.

Terrier signs new deal

Martin Terrier has penned a new four-year deal with Stade Rennais.

Newcastle had looked at the attacker, who netted 21 league goals for the French side last term, as a potential summer target to increase their attacking options

Chloe Kelly and Fran Kirby missing through injury from post-Euros England squad

Chloe Kelly and Fran Kirby are both missing due to injury from England’s first squad since their Euro 2022 triumph.

Winger Kelly, scorer of the extra-time winner against Germany that clinched Euros glory for the Lionesses at Wembley on July 31, sustained a problem during Manchester City’s Champions League qualifying loss to Real Madrid on Sunday, while Chelsea’s Kirby has been nursing a foot issue.

England boss Sarina Wiegman, whose side have a double-header of World Cup qualifiers against Austria away on September 3 and Luxembourg in Stoke three days later, told a press conference regarding the pair: “They’re OK.”

Depay returning to Old Trafford?

12:45 , Michael Jones

United are considering a late move for former forward Memphis Depay in the summer window, according to a report from Spain.

Marca have linked him with a move back to Old Trafford with a supposed bid around £8.5million, though reports last week said he was open to contract termination at Barcelona which would allow him to move on a free transfer.

Barcelona want to get the forward off their books and could be willing to accept the contract termination if Depay favours a move back to the Premier League and United actively want to sign him.

However, it seems unlikely that the chiefs at Manchester United are seriously considering this and the rumour seems more like a tactic to raise interest in the Dutch international.

Bailly leaving Old Trafford

12:39 , Michael Jones

Eric Bailly, who started just three Premier League games last season, is on his way to Marseille in a season-long loan deal.

Marseille will be obligated to make the move for the centre-back permanent for a fee of £5.9m if they qualify for the Champions League and he plays a stated number of games.

Arsenal exit for Maitland-Niles?

12:33 , Michael Jones

talkSPORT reports that Southampton, Bournemouth and West Ham have all been offered the chance to sign Arsenal midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

The Gunners want to shift Maitland-Niles off the books and would prefer a permanent deal but could also be open to a loan move with the option to make it permanent.

Maitland-Niles has been told he isn’t part of Mikel Arteta’s plans and is looking for a move elsewhere.

A busy first summer of the Todd Boehly era at Chelsea appears likely to continue as the end of the transfer window looms into view.

Marc Cucurella, Kalidou Koulibaly and Raheem Sterling have all been added to Thomas Tuchel’s senior squad, while promising youngsters Carney Chukwuemeka, Cesare Casadei and Gabriel Slonina have been secured on permanent deals, too.

With a list of leavers including Romelu Lukaku, Antonio Rudiger and Timo Werner, though, Tuchel is looking to further replenish his squad, targeting a number of familiar Premier League faces in a bid to mount a genuine title challenge.

The 28-year-old has helped the Blues win three successive Women’s Super League titles, two FA Cups and two League Cups since joining from LSK Kvinner in 2019.

She scored 11 goals in 35 appearances for the club last season.

“I’m so happy to be extending my time at Chelsea for three further years,” she told the club’s website. “We’ve already achieved so much during my time here at the club and I really can’t wait to see what we can do next.

“A big thank you to all the fans, they have been a huge support throughout, and I look forward to seeing them all this weekend ahead of our new season.”

Forest splash the cash

12:15 , Michael Jones

Nottingham Forest could take their summer spending spree beyond £170m after adding Tottenham defender Japhet Tanganga to their long list of targets.

The newly-promoted side had to spend big to repopulate a squad that saw a cluster of loan players leave at the end of last season.

So far their investments are paying off as Forest sit 10th in the table after three games with one win, one draw and one loss to their name.

If they secure Tanganga can he help secure them Premier League football again next year?

Everton are in talks with Manchester United over a deal for midfielder James Garner, according to The Athletic.

Garner had been tipped to challenge for a first-team spot this year after a fine loan spell at Nottingham Forest but the United are seemingly wanting to cash in on the highly-rated midfielder.

The Toffees face competition from other Premier League clubs who have courted Garner but an official bid could propel them to the front of the queue.

It is believed that Manchester United value Garner at around £14million.

Last chance saloon

11:21 , Michael Jones

According to De Telegraaf Manchester United are planning one final offer for Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong. Reports say that the higher ups at United are flying to Spain this week in an attempt to seal a deal.

De Jong has so far been steadfast in his desire to remain at Barcelona and the prospect of rejoining his former Ajax boss Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford isn’t too exciting for him.

For his part, Ten Hag has persuaded the Red Devils’ hierarchy to make another attempt after personally holding positive talks with De Jong but once again this transfer will come down to the midfielder’s deferred wages.

He is owed £17m by Barcelona after taking a wage cut during the behind-closed-doors season at the height of the coronavirus pandemic but the Catalan giants want De Jong off the books to avoid paying him.

If he stays, he will be paid his deferred wages by Barca but if he leaves that burden may be transferred onto Manchester United though they are under no obligation - as of yet - to take it on.

No offers for Neto

11:14 , Michael Jones

Wolves boss, Bruno Lage, has claimed that the club is yet to receive a proposal for forward Pedro Neto amid reported interest from Arsenal.

The Times claims the Gunners are interested in signing the 22-year-old, who is believed to be valued at over £50m by his current employers.

“I have heard that but nothing has come to us,” Lage told reporters on Tuesday.

“It’s normal now, with the good players that we have. Teams are looking for good players in the same way we are looking for (Goncalo) Guedes, Matheus (Nunes), (Nathan) Collins. No one told me anything about any proposal.”

‘McFred’ defined an era of Manchester United – but how should they be remembered?

11:06 , Michael Jones

There were two great defensive midfielders with Manchester United affiliations at Old Trafford on Monday. Roy Keane seemed surprised that the new recruit Casemiro came over to hug him. Maybe the Brazilian was raised on tales of the Irishman’s heroics against Juventus in 1999. Perhaps he just wanted to dodge the kind of vitriolic appraisals Keane has delivered about Harry Maguire from the television studio. But maybe United’s most iconic captain sensed a kindred spirit anyway.

Because until Casemiro arrived Keane could feel his legacy was not upheld. Arguably United’s last truly successful signing at the base of the midfield was Michael Carrick, who took Keane’s No. 16 shirt when he arrived in 2006; for a few years, at least, Anderson threatened to take that mantle. But if Paul Scholes and Carrick are one of United’s two defining central-midfield partnerships since Keane departed, the other is Scott McTominay and Fred.

They have been United’s Xavi and Iniesta, their Pirlo and Gattuso: not, admittedly, in terms of talent or trophies, because they were not Champions League or World Cup winners. But they were bracketed together, on the pitch and in the imagination.

Where will Bellingham end up?

10:53 , Michael Jones

Liverpool’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester United on Monday night ignited new calls for the Reds to dip back into the transfer window and strengthen their midfield options before the deadline on September 1st.

That doesn’t seem likely due to Liverpool’s tightly controlled budget but one name that kept popping upas an option was Jude Bellingham.

Liverpool have long been admirers of the Borussia Dortumund midfielder and are said to want to bring him to Anfield next summer but they face stiff competition.

Chelsea and Manchester United are also said to be keen on the England midfielder and The Sun cites Marca as saying Real Madrid will use their £70m windfall from selling Casemiro to the Red Devils to snap up the 19-year-old in 2023.

Tottenham want Dan James

Tottenham are eyeing up a move for Leeds winger Dan James who they see as a potential replacement for Bryan Gil. Gil is hoping to rejoin Valencia on a loan deal.

Manchester United transfer news: Antony, Cody Gakpo, Frenkie de Jong, Memphis Depay and more

Manchester United secured their first Premier League win under Erik ten Hag with a much-needed 2-1 victory over Liverpool, but the club’s summer transfer dealings appear far from finished.

Casemiro was unveiled to supporters at Old Trafford before that win, with the midfielder a high-cost addition from Real Madrid.

Ten Hag has also secured the signings of Ajax’s Lisandro Martinez and Tyrell Malacia of Feyenoord this summer, while Christian Eriksen arrived on a free transfer.

But with the Dutch manager keen for more reinforcements and Cristiano Ronaldo’s future still seemingly uncertain, who else might be arriving in Manchester before the window closes?

Lampard addresses Gordon rumours

10:07 , Michael Jones

Speaking after Everton’s 1-0 win away to Fleetwood in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night, Toffees boss Frank Lampard addressed the rumours concerning Anthony Gordon’s potential move to Chelsea.

The London side have offered £60m for the forward but have twice been rebuked by the Merserysiders.

“He had a small injury on his heel. He hasn’t trained since [Nottingham] Forest. I would only have brought him on if I felt it was absolutely necessary to do so.” said Lampard when asked why Gordon was an unused substitute last night.

“I know what people would have read into it if I had left him at home, but Anthony was fit to play. We didn’t need him to.

“He is our player. He has three years left on his contract. We are aware of the interest from Chelsea — the world is now — but this situation has to be right for Everton Football Club and for me, as coach of the team.

“Can I veto a deal? That sounds a little bit dramatic. It is a considered decision of the club which I am fully involved in. Fair play. I should be, it is a footballing decision and also a financial decision.

“The priority now is that it is a football decision because we are three games into the season. It is another complication for us but the reality is Anthony is an Everton player and whilst that is the case he is going to get his head down and work.”

More incomings at Spurs?

09:45 , Michael Jones

Antonio Conte continues to try and build a Tottenham squad that can compete not only for the top four spots in the Premier League but also across each cup competition and for the top-flight title.

That process means selling on players not in his plans and bringing in new signings that can strengthen the first team squad.

On Spurs’ radar is Ruslan Malinosvkyi. The Atalanta midfielder is said to be dreaming about a move to Tottenham and the club are interested in the £18m midfielder.

Wolves winger Adama Traore is also on the wanted list as Conte looks to add one more attacking option to his squad.

The Mirror reports that Everton are ready to cash in on 21-year-old forward Anthony Gordon, but only if they can find an appropriate replacement.

Watford’s 20-year-old Joao Pedro is reportedly one option for the Toffees but they are competing with Newcastle for his signature whilst another is Southampton’s Scotland international Che Adams.

The Merseysiders previously rejected a £45million bid from Chelsea for Gordon, who has also been linked with Tottenham.

His determination to make it into the Chelsea starting XI has kept him in London but is now the time the 21-year-old makes the move abroad?

A loan move appears to be in the offing as The Mail claims Bayer Leverkusen are in advanced talks with Chelsea about taking the winger/full-back for a season.

Manchester United clearing house?

09:23 , Michael Jones

One of the more likely stories from this morning’s papers is that Manchester United boss, Erik ten Hag, wants to continue to clear out players who are not in his plans for the future.

The Daily Telegraph say that Brandon Williams, Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe are set to follow Eric Bailly out of the door at Old Trafford as ten Hag plots an overhaul to his defensive options with The Sun adding that as many as nine United players could leave the club before the end of the transfer window on September 1st.

Chelsea swooping in on Pepe?

09:16 , Michael Jones

According to Portuguese outlet Record, Chelsea are considering a bid for Porto winger Pepe despite the Brazilian not being available for anything less than his £59m release clause.

The 25-year-old attacker has previously been the subject of a £25.3m bid from Arsenal but the offer was instantly rejected by Porto, who continue to hold out for over double that.

There have been no further bids since but the report claims Chelsea have started to send inquiries to the Primeira Liga side.

Pepe made 40 total appearances last term, netting six goals and laying on five assists.

Pay Ronaldo up says Kilbane

09:10 , Michael Jones

The rumours surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo continue to circulate and it is still unlcear whether or not he will be playing for Manchester United this season.

His agent is actively pursuing a move away from Old Trafford for the 37-year-old who is believed to want to quit the club this summer in pursuit of Champions League football.

Erik ten Hag has benched Ronaldo twice in United’s opening three Premier League games and he only came off the bench in the 86th minute against Liverpool in place of goalscorer Marcus Rashford.

Former Everton star Kevin Kilbane has suggested that the club may need to pay up to £30million to end this particular transfer saga and release Ronaldo from his contract to allow him to join another club on a free transfer.

“Cristiano Ronaldo, it just seems to be that United have got to pay him up,” Kilbane told Off The Ball. “If they want him out of the door, if he is not going to go quietly just pay him up. They are paying over the odds on transfer fees, it seems for everyone that goes into the club by £20-30million.

“That’s probably the amount they are going to have to pay Ronaldo up to go. If they are going to get rid of him, that seems to be the only viable option I think. Pay him up, make Ronaldo a free [agent] and then there will be suitors around Europe to take him.”

West Ham sign Emerson

09:04 , Michael Jones

West Ham United have announced the signing of Italy international defender Emerson Palmieri who joins the club on a four-year contract with a one-year option from Chelsea.

Emerson has won the European Championship, Champions League and Europa League during his career. He moved to Italy from Brazil in 2014 was granted citizenship and switched international allegiance three years later, winning 27 caps, including a start in Italy’s Euro 2020 final victory over England at Wembley a year ago.

“I’m very happy to be here and to arrive here,” said Emerson, who will wear the No 33 shirt. “It’s a big challenge for me, it’s a big team, so I’m very happy to be here and I’m ready.

“Personally, since the first day I arrived here in England, I always saw the big clubs and I always watched the big games and I knew the history about West Ham. The history is so, so big for this team and so when I knew about the interest for sure I said ‘Yes, let’s go, I want to go there’ and I’m here now!

“I can’t wait to get started in a West Ham shirt.”

Brendan Rodgers explains Wesley Fofana absence as Chelsea transfer interest continues

08:59 , Michael Jones

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers has said Chelsea target Wesley Fofana was left out of the matchday squad after not turning up for first-team training last week and has been working with the under-23s.

Having been dropped from the squad for Saturday’s 2-1 Premier League loss to Southampton, with Rodgers saying the defender was not in the right frame of mind to play, Fofana was absent again on Tuesday as the Foxes edged into the Carabao Cup third round with a 3-1 win on penalties at Stockport.

Prior to the game it had been reported Leicester had turned down a third bird from Chelsea for Fofana, and Rodgers said in his post-match press conference: “There was an offer gone in and it’s been been rejected. Apart from that, I’m not 100 per cent on the other details, because we were focusing on the game.”
