New TRANSFORMERS Animated Series Coming to Nickelodeon

The Transformers will roll out once again on a new adventure. Nickelodeon and Hasbro’s Entertainment One (eOne) will combine forces to bring the ever-popular alien bots to TV in an upcoming animated series. The Transformers series will target the next generation of Autobot (or maybe Decepticon) fans with a focus on found family.

This action-comedy will show a new species of Transformers as they try to figure out where they belong among Autobots, Decepticons, and their adoptive humans. The premiere will air on Nickelodeon in the United States first before going international. There’s no scheduled date (nor an official title) quite yet but perhaps it will land before the end of 2021. Ant Ward (Rise of the Teenage Mutant Turtles) will executive produce the series alongside Nicole Dubuc (Transformers: Rescue Bots).

Right now, there are plans for 26 half-hour episodes that may or may not tell the entire story. In a press release, Nickelodeon Animation President Ramsey Naito expressed his excitement over this new venture. “The series will tell a reimagined story featuring both original characters and fan-favorites for a whole new generation of kids and families,” Naito said.

“This new series is a fresh creative take on the brand, which will excite longtime fans around the world and soon-to-be fans alike,” adds Olivier Dumont, eOne’s President of Family Brands. “All being introduced to the robots in disguise by an A list creative team led by eOne’s Mikiel Houser.”

This is the latest move for Nickelodeon with a recent announcement about the return/reboots of Rugrats and SpongeBob SquarePants. It’s certainly a mashup of nostalgia and new adventures all around. We’ll see where the tone of the show ends up; perhaps somewhere in between the original series and the Michael Bay movies. Or maybe something altogether new. Let’s see what happens with this new family adventure involving massive, sentient robots.
