Transit Police say man killed by train in Hanson was trespassing when he was hit

HANSON – A man is dead after he was hit by an MBTA commuter rail train Sunday morning in Hanson, police said.

The MBTA commuter rail Twitter account reported shortly after 5:45 a.m. that Kingston Line Train 2040 had been canceled due to police activity on the right of way.

MBTA Transit Police Superintendent Richard Sullivan said the man was "trespassing directly in the right of way" when he was hit by the train.

The man has not been identified by authorities.

Sullivan said Transit Police detectives are investigating the man's death. Foul play is not suspected.

Shortly after 7:20 a.m., the MBTA tweeted that all Kingston Line commuter rail trains would start and stop from Hanson due to police activity in the area until further notice. Passengers took buses for all trips between Hanson, Halifax and Kingston.

The MBTA tweeted shortly after 10 a.m. that regular service had resumed for all Kingston Line trains.

This is the second MBTA train fatality in a week. Katelyn McCarthy, 18, of Abington, was killed by a commuter rail train in the area of the Birch Street crossing in Abington at about 11:33 p.m. May 13. She was a senior at Abington High School.
