Trapped Horse Rescued After Falling in Cistern

Montgomery County deployed a technical rescue team to Burtonsville, Maryland, on Sunday, December 23, to rescue a horse that had fallen into an old cistern.

The team used earthmoving equipment to dig a trench large enough to extricate the beleaguered beast. The successful rescue took several hours, with teams responding at around 7:30 in the morning and the animal finally walking free well after 10. A veterinarian at the scene deemed the horse in good health.
