This Trash Can Hides a Seriously Innovative, Oddly Satisfying Feature

Let’s get one thing straight: We make trash. From the nasty trash (like food waste and used paper towels) to the space-taking trash (like egg or milk cartons), trash is, like Thanos, who is the trash of the universe, inevitable. It might stink up a whole room if you’re not careful, and what’s even worse is that once that diabolical odor enters your nostrils, you’ll become too disgusted to go near it. This happens to me once a week, sometimes twice, when I am too repelled by the smelly abyss of my trash can to place my own hands in the bin and push down the heap to create more space. I just take the garbage bag out and get it over with. Thankfully, the trash chute room on my apartment floor is right by my unit. Others are not that lucky.

But fear not: We have an ultimate trash crusher in the house, Joseph Joseph’s Titan Trash Can Compactor. This stainless steel bin has an extra handle at the lid. When it is close to being full, you can simply lift the extra handle and push down, thereby crushing the trash; this video from TikTok demonstrates how. And the fulfilling sensation you'll get out of it requires reaction pics to be fully expressed (don’t be afraid to moan a little when you crush it).

This crushing feature has a bougie name: "hygienic compaction system," and it’s patented, so you know it works well. How well? According to Joseph Joseph, with a trash volume reduction of 66 percent per compaction, over time the bin will be able to hold up to three times more waste than a similarly sized regular trash bin. That must equate to saving three times more money on liners, or using three times fewer trash bins altogether, right?

With the Titan, you’ll be able to empty the trash less often and use fewer liners. And Titan’s design also ensures that only the inside of the bag touches the garbage while it is being compacted, leaving you with clean hands, a clean bin, and a clean home. The crème de la crème, however, is its odor control—a built-in carbon filter holder inside the lid—that contains the smell, making it a long-lasting trash can that also renders your trash bags longer lasting on the odor front. While it can be rather heavy to take out a really full trash bag, well, just use the opportunity to train your arm muscles.
