Comedian Joe Lycett has given an update for Channel 4's Travel Man, after he was announced as Richard Ayoade's replacement back in 2019.

Posting a selfie of himself and actor Bill Bailey alongside a pony on Instagram, Lycett said: "In July 2019, it was announced that I was to take over from Richard Ayoade as the host of Travel Man. Then some bits and bobs got in the way. Well finally, we're off!"

Lycett announced that there would be a special guest star for the Christmas special, which would kick off the return of the series.

The comedian also joked that the series has been renamed, saying: "Don't let the TV listings or the Wikipedia or IMDb page or the titles on the actual show fool you – it is very much called Travelmum.

"My Travelmum adventures start with a very fun Christmas special in Iceland with @billbaileyofficial on 27th December at 8pm, with a new series in early 2022," he confirmed.

Bailey, who has appeared on Never Mind the Buzzcocks, Have I Got News For You, and QI (as well as a very successful Strictly Come Dancing stint last year) will be joining for the one-off special as his first guest star before Lycett embarks on further adventures in the new year.

However, as Ayoade often had a number of guest stars joining him for his adventures, it is expected Lycett will also be featuring celebrity guests in the new series.

Several comedians and Channel 4 alums confirmed their excitement of the news, with Sara Pascoe commenting: "Yay!" Former Great British Bake Off star Val Stones also wrote: "I shall be sat with my woolly jumper on and a glass in my hand."

Presenter and former Gogglebox star Kate Bottley also said: "Oh my goodness. How wonderful!"

Travel Man will return to Channel 4 on December 27 at 8pm.
