Travel site names Key West hotel one of the best beachfront hotels in the U.S.

There are more than 95,000 miles of coastline in the United States. So it stands to reason there would be quite a few beachfront hotels.

And one of the best is in Key West, Florida, according to a popular digital travel magazine.

Trips to Discover has named its 15 best beachfront hotels in the country, and the Southernmost Beach Resort in Key West is on the list.

Located on the southern side of Duval Street, the resort, which underwent a $15 million renovation in late 2021, “is an upscale property with enchanting ocean views,” the magazine writes, adding that it “spans six acres in the historic Old Town, facing the Atlantic, complete with three palm-fringed pools with private cabins, a secluded sunbathing pier, and hammocks that are strung between the palm trees. Enjoy sunrise meditations and morning yoga sessions on the beach, spa services, and mouthwatering meals at the signature restaurant, an open-air beachfront cafe focused on Caribbean cuisine.”

In addition to the Southernmost Beach Café, two poolside bars fill drinking and nibbling needs: the Pineapple Bar, which has live music on Wednesdays, and Shores Bar, where guests can try the resort’s signature drink, a Key Lime Colada cocktail.

“We are proud that Southernmost Beach Resort has been recognized year after year for its prime beachfront location,” said general manager Sarka Takovich via email. The recent renovation “preserved the iconic southern architecture and added some modern touches inspired by the destination.”

The Southernmost Beach Resort was the only Florida property to make the Trips to Discover list. California had the most hotels on the list with four, while Hawaii and Oregon each had two. New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, Massachusetts, Georgia and Orcas Island in Washington state each had one.

The list is made up of personal favorites of travel writer K.C. Dermody, who wrote the article for Trips to Discover, and some of the magazine’s highest-rated hotels on highly rated waterfronts.
