Travelers Championship announces player field that includes 25 of world’s top 50 golfers
Five of the world’s top 10 golfers highlight the 2021 Travelers Championship 156-player field, which the tournament announced Friday.
Dustin Johnson (No. 1), Bryson DeChambeau (No. 5), Patrick Cantlay (No. 7), Patrick Reed (No. 8) and Brooks Koepka (No. 10) lead another star-studded field which includes 25 of the world’s top 50 golfers.
Johnson, the tournament’s champion in 2020, is one of 10 former winners who will play at TPC River Highlands starting Thursday. Chez Reavie (2019 winner), Bubba Watson (2010, 2015 and 2018), Russell Knox (2016), Kevin Streelman (2014), Marc Leishman (2012), Stewart Cink (1997, 2008), Hunter Mahan (2007), Connecticut native JJ Henry (2006) and Phil Mickelson (2001-02) round out the returning champions.
Francesco Molinari, the 2018 British Open champion, accounts for one of the 14 total majors won among the field. Mickelson, who won the PGA Championship last month, leads all player with six major titles.
Chase Koepka (Brooks Koepka’s brother), John Pak (the college player of the year), Davis Thompson (former No. 1 amateur) and Austin Eckroat (four-time college all American) will all play on sponsors exemptions. The field is set to grow, too, as the top four finishers in Monday’s qualifying tournament at Ellington Ridge Country Club will earn spots in the tournament.
The tournament, which was held without fans in 2020 due to COVID-19, will allow roughly 10,000 fans per day. Tickets are on sale now, with prices starting at $50 for Wednesday grounds tickets, $65 for Thursday and Friday grounds tickets and $70 for Saturday and Sunday. A second tier — courtyard tickets — will allow fans access to open-air structures that provide shaded seating overlooking the 17th and 18th holes, as well as food and drinks. Those tickets start at $150 for Wednesday, $260 for Thursday and Saturday and $280 for Friday and Sunday.
Because players competing in the U.S. Open this week have until an hour after Friday’s second round to officially declare, the list of players could change.
