Travelers Report Long Lines at Houston's Hobby Airport

Long lines formed in William P. Hobby Airport in Houston, Texas, as the airport entered emergency operations mode following mass flight cancellations on December 26, the Houston Chronicle reported.

Timelapse footage from Twitter user @sweasy187 shows long lines snaking through the airport. Hobby Airport said buses were shuttling affected Southwest Airlines customers to local hotels as the airline’s flight cancellations left people stranded across the country.

The US Department of Transportation said on Monday that it was concerned about the airline’s “unacceptable” rate of cancellations over the holiday weekend, and that it would examine whether the cancellations had been controllable.

Southwest Airlines said on Monday that consecutive days of extreme winter weather had forced it to fly around one third of the airline’s usual schedule for several days. The airline said its “heartfelt apologies for this are just beginning.” Credit: @sweasy187 via Storyful
