Travis Perry will soon be a Kentucky Wildcat. Here’s how to watch the Lyon County star play.

For the second straight year, Kentucky men’s basketball is set to add an in-state high school star from the commonwealth.

Following the celebrated arrival of current UK freshman guard Reed Sheppard (North Laurel) in the 2023 recruiting class, UK’s 2024 recruiting group will include guard Travis Perry (Lyon County), the all-time leading scorer in Kentucky boys’ high school basketball history.

Perry’s legendary high school basketball career — which has come while playing for his father, Ryan, who serves as the Lyon County head coach — still has a final chapter yet to be written, though.

Perry committed and signed with the Wildcats in early November, a few weeks before his senior season with Lyon County began.

The Lyons will play in several high-profile events during the 2023-24 season, which means UK fans will have plenty of chances to watch Perry play both in person and on streaming services.

Here’s an assortment of ways in which you can watch Perry and his talented Lyon County team (considered a strong contender to win the Sweet 16 state tournament) play over the next few months, both nationally and near Central Kentucky.

Mountain Sports Hall of Fame Throwback Game

At 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Lyon County will face Floyd Central at the historic Wayland Gymnasium in Wayland in the Mountain Sports Hall of Fame Throwback Game.

Wayland Gymnasium is the former home of “King” Kelly Coleman, who previously held the commonwealth’s all-time scoring record for boys’ high school basketball before Perry passed him during last season’s Sweet 16 state tournament.

While Saturday’s game between the Lyons and Jaguars is already sold out in the quaint venue, the game will be streamed via Mountain Top Sports.

In addition to Mountain Top Sports, Saturday’s throwback game will be streamed live on the WMDJ Facebook page.

City of Palms Classic

On Dec. 20 and Dec. 22, Lyon County will play in the prestigious City of Palms Classic in Fort Myers, Florida.

An opportunity boosted by having a pair of NCAA Division I signees on the Lyon County roster — in addition to Perry, Brady Shoulders will play at UT-Martin of the Ohio Valley Conference — the Lyons will be playing in the 50th edition of the showcase event.

Lyon County will play Lexington High School (South Carolina) at 1 p.m. on Dec. 20.

Then on Dec. 22, Lyon County will either play at 11:20 a.m. (if the Lyons lose their first game) or at 4:20 p.m. (if the Lyons win their first game).

Lyon County’s opponent on Dec. 22 will be either Charlotte High School (Florida) or Buckhorn High School (Alabama).

The City of Palms Classic has tickets available at cityofpalmsclassic.com/tickets. Games can be streamed via Baller TV.

White, Greer & Maggard Holiday Classic

From Dec. 27-30, Lyon County will play in Lexington in the White, Greer & Maggard Holiday Classic, which is hosted at Lexington Catholic High School.

This offers one of the most convenient chances for Central Kentucky residents to watch Perry play ahead of his enrollment at UK.

The field of teams in this year’s edition of the event includes Frederick Douglass, Woodford County, DeSales, Harrison County, Lexington Christian, North Laurel and Madison Southern, in addition to Lyon County.

The Lyons will begin play in the event at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 27 against Bourbon County. The Lyons are set to play on each of Dec. 27, Dec. 28, Dec. 29 and Dec. 30.

Perry has already showcased his talents in a past game played at Lexington Catholic as well. In January, Perry and Lyon County beat Reed Sheppard and North Laurel, 90-83, in a game played at LexCath. Perry totaled 45 points in the win.

All “A” Classic

If Lyon County is able to claim the 2nd Region All “A” Classic title, then the Lyons will advance to the statewide All “A” Classic, which will be held from Jan. 24-28 in Corbin.

The 16-team tournament is normally held in Richmond, but will take place at the Corbin Arena this season.

In order to reach this event, Lyon County first has to win the 2nd Region All “A” Classic title. That journey begins for the Lyons with a game at Crittenden County on Jan. 9.

Dan Cummins Classic

Another appearance in Central Kentucky for Lyon County will come at 8 p.m. on Jan. 20, when the Lyons will play Woodford County in the Dan Cummins Classic at Scott County High School in Georgetown.

The event will feature plenty of basketball all day long, including Bullitt East against host school Scott County and Great Crossing (Warhawks junior big man Malachi Moreno has a UK scholarship offer) against Male.

But Lyon County against Woodford County is the centerpiece of the event.

Sweet 16 state tournament

Should Lyon County be able to secure a third consecutive 2nd Region championship, then Perry and company will again play inside Rupp Arena in Lexington as part of the Sweet 16 state tournament.

The 2024 edition of the boys’ Sweet 16 will be played from March 20-23.

Lyon County reached the Sweet 16 quarterfinals in each of the last two seasons.
