The first-ever Cactus Jack Foundation HBCU Celebrity Softball Classic will be held at Minute Maid Park on Feb. 16, 2023. The Astros Foundation and Travis Scott’s Cactus Jack Foundation have partnered to make this event’s title sponsor.

On the opening weekend of the college baseball season, multiple historically Black colleges and universities will compete in the Classic, a round-robin tournament showcasing their baseball programs.

In addition to his own Cactus Jack Foundation, Travis Scott will collaborate with Project H.E.A.L. This organization seeks to improve the lives of young people, particularly those from underprivileged backgrounds.

The gates will open at 5:30 p.m., the Homerun Derby will start at 7 p.m., and the softball game will follow at 7:30 p.m. Texas Southern University, Prairie View A&M University, Southern University and A&M College, Grambling State University, Jackson State University and Mississippi Valley State University are among the historically Black colleges and universities that are expected to attend.

An all-star lineup of baseball Hall of Famers and A-list celebrities are officially scheduled to participate in the Homerun Derby and Softball Game at this coming year’s event. Stars like Travis Scott himself, Kendall Jenner, Mookie Betts, Gary Sheffield and Hall of Famers Reggie “Mr. October” Jackson and Jeff Bagwell attended the event the previous year.

The foundation has announced that the money raised from the Fall Classic will go to the Waymon Webster Scholarship Fund, which helps pay for the remaining costs of college for seniors attending historically Black colleges and universities so that they can graduate on schedule.

According to FOX26, the program raised $1,000,000 for 100 graduating seniors from HBCUs to use toward scholarship funding. Scott’s family has a long history of involvement with and support for historically Black colleges and universities. This is said to be the driving force behind his dedication to funding scholarships for HBCU students.

His sister recently graduated from Howard University last year; his father attended Prairie View A&M, where his brother is currently enrolled, and his mother attended Grambling University.

The Waymon Webster Scholarship Fund bears the name of Waymon Webster, his grandfather, who attended Prairie View A&M Graduate School and served as its dean.
