Treasurer presents five-year school budget plan to New London Board of Education
NEW LONDON - Treasurer Jim Hudson discussed the five-year school budget plan with the board of education at Monday’s meeting and outlined some of the capital improvements needed during that time.
Although the levy was defeated in November, Superintendent Brad Romano said he was encouraged by the number of people who supported the measure. It is up to the board to decide when or if to put it on the ballot again.
Romano said the district has adopted the state protocol of “mask to stay/test to play” guidelines for COVID, and the equipment for the Community Fitness Center has just arrived, with an open house probably to take place in mid-December.
Among other actions, the board approved the dedication of Wildcat Drive to the village for “public use of the street, utilities and easements.” This agreement will now go to village council.
Elementary Principal Chris Dulka summarized the intervention model being used to prepare classroom paraprofessionals to help students with reading skills.
A two-year board vacancy will open in January, and applications for the position are being accepted at the board office through Dec. 7.
The next board meeting is Monday, Dec. 13 and the first of the new year will be Monday, Jan.10, both beginning at 6 p.m.
