'Give it the Treatment it Deserves': Jewish Woman Smashes 'Gravy Boat' Made in Nazi Germany

A January 22 TikTok video captured the moment a Jewish woman in southern Florida smashed a porcelain dinnerware item made in Nazi Germany.

Adam Feldman, the son of the couple that made the video, told Storyful his parents came into possession of what they called a “gravy boat” years ago after a neighbor discovered it wrapped up at the bottom of a closet. Feldman said the neighbor gave the gravy boat to his mother after learning of the loss her family endured when Nazi Germany invaded and occupied Poland.

“They didn’t want it in the house. They contacted a few museums but there was no interest in it,” Feldman said, explaining that it was a mass produced item of little historical value. “They could have sold it for a few bucks but my mom said it would feel like blood money.”

They were also concerned about keeping it in circulation to avoid it falling into the hands of collectors with “dubious political sympathies.”

“So, they decided it would be best to smash it,” Feldman said.

In the video, when asked by Feldman’s father what she will do with it, Feldman’s mother says, “We’re going to smash it to bits and give it the treatment it deserves.”

She then picks up a hammer and smashes the gravy boat with a single hit. Credit: Adam Feldman via Storyful
