Trees down in Monroe County after Tuesday storm in the Poconos

Blue Ridge Hook and Ladder Co. was working to clear trees from roads in Monroe County’s West End on Tuesday evening following a storm.

Crews were active across Hamilton Township, including in the areas of Brislin Road, Neyhart Road and Sawmill Road, according to photos provided by Pocono Record reader Sue Hunter. Multiple photos showed the volunteer company surveying damaged power lines.

As of 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Met-Ed was reporting 740 Monroe County customers without power, including 521 in Hamilton Township. PPL was reporting only 10.

Blue Ridge posted on Facebook Tuesday evening that the early bird drawing for the fire company’s Mega Bucks Galore fundraiser would be delayed.

“Due to the storm and having multiple calls the mega bucks galore drawing will be delayed tonight until all members are clear from the multiple incidents,” Blue Ridge posted on Facebook at 6:44 p.m.

The fire company was able to complete the drawing a few hours later. (Chip No. 379 was pulled in the $500 early bird drawing; tickets are still available for the main drawing on Sept. 27, when the rest of the prizes totaling $30,000 will be given away.)

“Severe weather threat has ended for tonight,” the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, New Jersey, tweeted late Tuesday. “Significant severe weather occurred in the Delmarva, the Poconos and northwestern NJ, but the Delaware and Lehigh Valleys were generally spared.”

Wednesday should be “Slightly cooler and less humid than yesterday, but only slightly,” the NWS said Wednesday morning. “However, the risk of showers and thunderstorms, particularly of the severe variety, is much lower than yesterday.”
