Tremendous 10 poll: Duals wrestling champs highlight week's performances

The Tremendous 10 poll this week includes a pair of Lake Gibson wrestlers who helped lead the Braves to the state duals title along with performances from the final week of regular-season soccer and boys and girls basketball.

In last week's poll, Mulberry girls basketball player Lorianys Castanon-Cruz won by a 2-1 margin. She finished with 48.9 percent of the vote, and Discovery boys basketball player Angel Canuelas  was second with 24.7 followed by Discovery boys soccer player Aiden Lausell with 16.1 percent. Rounding out the top 10 are Winter Haven's MacAlister Kranzler Ratcliffe, Winter Haven's Jamie Phillips Jr., Lakeland's Naomi Garner, Bartow's Jayson Williams, Lake Gibson's Taniya Brown, Fort Meade's Alex Bentura and Davenport's Angie Sciacca.

Here are this week's nominees:

Lake Gibson's Colt Brown (wrestling) went 3-0 in the 126-pound division in the state duals. He had pins in his first two matches. Then in the  Braves' victory over Fleming Island in the championship match, he won an overtime decision over No. 2-ranked Jayce Paridon. For the season, he is 25-4.

Lake Wales junior Sebastian Rosado (boys basketball) scored 47 points in the Highlanders' victory over Stuart Martin County. Rosado had been out until mid-January and Lake Wales is 2-2 with him in the lineup, having won its last two games. In four games, he is averaging 23.0 points.

Lake Gibson's Hayden Whidden (wrestling) pinned Carson Bennett in the Braves' semifinals win over Charlotte at 145 pounds then defeated Fleming Island's Kaden Schaefer in the championship match. For the season, he is 16-4.

Lakeland Christian senior Carly Sabat (girls soccer) scored four goals and added two assists in three matches, including one of the Vikings' goals in their 2-0 win over Shorecrest Prep. For the season, she is leading the Vikings with 11 goals and 29 points and has seven assists.

George Jenkins sophomore Morgan Walsh (girls basketball) averaged 17.7 points and 6.7 steals in three games, all wins by the Eagles. For the season, she is averaging 12.1 points and 3.0 steals. Walsh was averaging 8.4 points after eight games and is now averaging 14.5 points in her last 12 games.

Bartow sophomore EJ Horton (boys basketball) averaged 16.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals in four games as the Yellow Jackets went 3-1. For the season, Horton is averaging 13.3 points, 3.1 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.2 steals.

Santa Fe Catholic sophomore Tate Darner (boys basketball) scored 26 points and grabbed four rebounds and  four steals in the  Crimson Hawks' 74-70 win over Victory Christian. For the season, he is averaging 13.5 points, 3.2 assists and 1.5 steals.

McKeel Christian junior Skylar Smith (girls basketball) averaged 11.0  points, 4.3 rebounds and 6.3 steals in three games, including 16 points, four rebounds and nine steals in the Thunder's 45-37 victory over Lakeland Christian.

Davenport junior Emmanuel Ramirez (boys soccer) scored four goals and added an assist in a pair of wins by the Broncos last week. For the season, he has 15 goals and four assists.

George Jenkins sophomore Abbie Kent (girls soccer) scored two goals and added an assist in a pair of wins for the Eagles, who have won three matches in a row and are 4-1-1 in their last six matches. Kent scored the only goal in Jenkins' win over Springstead. For the season, she has three goals and eight assists.
