We took a data-driven look at the question, using Yelp to discover which local businesses have been most discussed this month.

To find out who made the list, we looked at Austin businesses on Yelp by category and counted how many reviews each received. Rather than compare them based on number of reviews alone, we calculated a percentage increase in reviews over the past month, and tracked businesses that consistently increased their volume of reviews to identify statistically significant outliers compared to past performance.

Perry’s Steakhouse & Grille

Open since May, this steakhouse and New American spot, which offers seafood and more, is trending compared to other businesses categorized as "Seafood" on Yelp.

Citywide, seafood spots saw a median 1.2% increase in new reviews over the past month, but Perry’s Steakhouse & Grille saw a 19% increase, with a slight downward trend from a 4.5-star rating a month ago to four stars today.

Located at 11801 Domain Blvd. in North Burnett, Perry’s Steakhouse & Grille offers it offers steak, seafood, salad and dessert. On the menu, look for seafood options such as grilled salmon served with lemon dill butter and cauliflower mousse fried shrimp with French fries or sweet potato fries and steamed lobster tail.

Whether or not you've been hearing buzz about downtown Austin's Comedor, the Mexican spot is a hot topic according to Yelp review data.

While businesses categorized as "Mexican" on Yelp saw a median 1.7% increase in new reviews over the past month, Comedor bagged a 19.4% increase in new reviews within that time frame, maintaining a solid 4.5-star rating.

Open at 501 Colorado St. since the spring, Comedor's menu features bone marrow tacos, fritters, pork chops and a tostada with smoked mackerel, octopus and shrimp. Libations include mezcal cocktails, martinis, beer and wine.

Comedor is open from 5–10 p.m. on Monday-Thursday, 5–11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m.–3 p.m. and 5–10 p.m. on Sunday.

Dean's One Trick Pony

Moreover, on a month-to-month basis Dean's One Trick Pony's review count increased by more than 120%.

Dean's One Trick Pony offers a variety of sandwiches, snacks like disco fries and crab rangoons as well as soft serve and seasonal pies. Over the past month, it's maintained a healthy 4.5-star rating among Yelpers.

Torchy's Tacos

The well-established breakfast and brunch spot, which offers tacos and more and opened at 110 San Antonio St., Unit 120, since 2018, increased its new review count by 15.2% over the past month, an outlier when compared to the median new review count of 1.7% for the Yelp category "Breakfast & Brunch." It outperformed the previous month by gaining 1.5 times more reviews than expected based on past performance.

It's not the only trending outlier in the breakfast and brunch category: Il Brutto has seen a 7.6% increase in reviews, and Mimi's Bistro & Bakery has seen a 5.5% bump.

Torchy's Tacos offers breakfast tacos like one stuffed with chorizo, egg and cheese, and fusion fare such as the Brushfire with Jamaican jerk chicken, grilled jalapeños and mango. Also, on offer are margaritas, cocktails and a local rotating selection of beer and wine.
