#Trending: What's heating up Phoenix's food scene this month

Unsure where Phoenix's insiders are eating and drinking? It's easy to spot lines out the door, but some underlying trends are harder to see.

We took a data-driven look at the question, using Yelp to analyze which eateries have been getting a noteworthy uptick in attention this month.

To find out who made the list, we looked at Phoenix businesses on Yelp by category and counted how many reviews each received. Rather than compare them based on number of reviews alone, we calculated a percentage increase in reviews over the past month, and tracked businesses that consistently increased their volume of reviews to identify statistically significant outliers compared to past performance.

Pubblico Italian Eatery

Open since February, this bar and Italian and pizza spot is trending compared to other businesses categorized as "Pizza" on Yelp.

Citywide, pizza spots saw a median 1.8 percent increase in new reviews over the past month, but Pubblico Italian Eatery saw a 7.3 percent increase, maintaining a strong 4.5-star rating throughout. Moreover, on a month-to-month basis Pubblico Italian Eatery's review count increased by more than 240 percent.

Located at 5813 N. Seventh St. in Camelback East, Pubblico Italian Eatery offers wood-fired pizza, as well as small bites like calamari, meatballs and focaccia bread. Homemade pasta like the clam linguini, the lobster ravioli and the chicken fettuccini are also available.

Teaspressa

Whether or not you've been hearing buzz about Camelback East's Teaspressa, the popular coffee and tea spot is a hot topic according to Yelp review data.

While businesses categorized as "Coffee & Tea" on Yelp saw a median 2.2 percent increase in new reviews over the past month, Teaspressa bagged an 8.7 percent increase in new reviews within that timeframe, maintaining a solid 4.5-star rating. It significantly outperformed the previous month by gaining 2.2 times more reviews than expected based on its past performance.

Open at 4628 E. Indian School Road since March 2018, Teaspressa serves coffee-inspired teas that are all-natural and organic. Flavors include the earthy and smoky green gold, the woody and honey-like Cape Town and the Manhattan Black with notes of chocolate.

The Macintosh

Camelback East's The Macintosh is also making waves. Open since October, 2018, at 2119 E. Camelback Road, Suite A21, the well-established cocktail bar and New American and Southern spot has seen a 3.8 percent bump in new reviews over the last month, compared to a median review increase of 1.5 percent for all businesses tagged "American (New)" on Yelp. Moreover, on a month-to-month basis, The Macintosh's review count increased by more than 230 percent.

The Macintosh offers sharing plates, salads, sandwiches and entrees like baby back ribs, Scottish salmon and risotto and a rice and portobello bowl. The bar menu features whiskey, beer, craft cocktails and wine.
