Trevor Lawrence is a competitor — no matter the venue.

The Clemson quarterback is fresh off delivering a national championship to cap off his sensational true freshman season. And in the time between the end of the football season and the beginning of spring practice, Lawrence, like many of his fellow students, is playing a little intramural basketball.

He apparently takes it quite seriously, too.

Earlier this week, a video surfaced of Lawrence taking exception to an opponent who set a screen on him in the backcourt. Lawrence responded by shoving the dude to the ground.

Lawrence, who is listed at 6-foot-5 and 205 pounds, clearly wasn’t happy that he was essentially blindsided, albeit by a much smaller player, as he made his way back up the court after a missed shot. And Lawrence obviously overreacted by decking that poor guy to the hardwood. He admitted as much.

Lawrence is one of many Clemson football players who participate in intramural basketball during the offseason. If you’re wondering if Tigers coach Dabo Swinney is cool with his stud quarterback risking injury by playing in a meaningless basketball league … he is.

Swinney was asked about it last month after one of his players, defensive tackle Jordan Williams, injured his leg during a hoops game. Williams, a potential starter, is going to miss spring practice because of the injury, but that won’t stop Swinney from allowing his players to experience college however they choose.

“Hey, it is what it is, you know. These guys need to be kids, too,” Swinney said per The State. “They’re just having fun and enjoying being college people and doing what college kids do.”

Lawrence, who threw for 3,280 yards and 30 touchdowns, could be the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft when he’s eligible in two years. Something tells me he won’t be playing much basketball after this year.
