The Jacksonville Jaguars held their first day of training camp Monday, July 25, 2022, at the Episcopal School of Jacksonville Knight Campus practice fields on Atlantic Blvd.

Travis Etienne, who many observers have said has had the best training camp of any Jacksonville Jaguars offensive players thus far, missed Tuesday's practice because of an unspecified illness, according to Jaguars public relations.

They did not specify if it was COVID-related.

As of June, the NFL and NFLPA no longer require COVID-19 surveillance testing of players and coaches regardless of vaccination status.

A team can choose to release the info, as the Arizona Cardinals did with Kyler Murray earlier this week, but it is not required.

More on the Jaguars

Etienne, who has shown no effects of the Lisfranc injury that cost him his entire rookie season in 2021, has been ruled out of Thursday night's preseason opener against the Las Vegas Raiders in the Hall of Fame game.

Jaguars coach Doug Pederson had already ruled Etienne out for Thursday's game, along with quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

Pederson said some first teamers will play but was not more specific.

Jake Luton will start at QB for the Jaguars. He is listed as third string. Second string QB C.J. Beathard is not expected to play as he is coming off a groin injury he sustained during a goal-line period in OTAs.

Luton, the 6-foot-6, 225-pounder from the Seattle suburb of Marysville, Wash., started three games for the Jaguas in 2020 but didn’t survive the final cut-down day under former coach Urban Meyer last year.

According to depth chart released Monday, rookie Snoop Connor will start at running back during the Hall of Fame game.

Conner was selected in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft in April out of Ole Miss.
