Trevorton man charged in 2022 bank robbery

Feb. 7—MIDDLEBURG — A 32-year-old Trevorton man has been arrested for a February 2022 bank robbery in Snyder County.

Jacob L. Snyder was arraigned Tuesday on felony charges for the Feb. 26, 2022, robbery of Northumberland National Bank, 5244 S. Susquehanna Trail in Union Township, Port Trevorton.

State police at Selinsgrove said Snyder walked into the bank at about noon and handed a bank teller a manila envelope with words written on it that everyone should remain calm and money be placed in the envelope.

The teller put $3,460 in the envelope and the male, who was masked to conceal his identity, left the area of the bank on a bicycle. Police said his movements leaving on the bike were recorded by a surveillance camera from a business near the bank.

Within days of the robbery, police received a tip from a state parolee that Snyder admitted to committing the bank robbery. On March 13, another tip about Snyder came from an FBI confidential source, court records said.

A search warrant obtained by police revealed that Snyder's cellphone was being used in the area of the bank at the time of the robbery, court records said.

A car being operated by Snyder a little more than two months after the robbery was impounded by Mount Carmel Police and inside the vehicle they recovered a manila envelope with a handwritten message, "Stay calm open register empty it. Open other register empty it. No panic alarms cooperate we all make it home," court records said.

Snyder is being held in lieu of $250,000 bail at Snyder County Prison following Tuesday's arraignment before District Judge Bo Trawitz on felony charges of bank robbery, theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property.
