Tri-Cities music festival grows to full-size. Large artists set to headline in June ’24

In June 2023, the inaugural ‘Get Down’ music festival took over the Uptown Shopping Center in Richland. Headliner Afroman, of “Because I Got High” and “Crazy Rap” fame, packed the main stage at the Uptown Theatre, with bodies overflowing out of the venue.

The then-called Uptown Get Down festival sold out the theatre. Its massive success has contributed to the growth of the festival, which has expanded into the full-fledged Tri Town Get Down, a homegrown effort led by a Richland native.

This growth is reflected in the lineup for the 2024 festival. This year’s headliners yield a collective monthly listener count of about 16 million Spotify users, over five times Afroman’s.

Get Down 2024 festival lineup

The three-day, ten-stage festival comes with a headlining act at the main stage for each day, this year located at John Dam Plaza. Each day also comes with co-headliners and additional supporting acts all day long, across many genres. The current lineup has been shared with the Herald, though artists are subject to change.

Headliner: Hobo Johnson and the LoveMakers

With a unique sound blending the spoken word, alternative punk and hip-hop, Hobo Johnson and his band the Lovemakers have over 100 million views on YouTube for a reason. Hobo Johnson garners more than half a million monthly listeners on Spotify, with Seattle listed as a top location for listeners. The group’s “Tiny Desk” submission for the NPR series blew up, with more than 25 million views, becoming a staple in their success.

Headliner: KYLE

Rapper KYLE has 5 million monthly listeners on Spotify and has been nominated for a Grammy, a World Music Award and five VMAs. His breakout single was “iSpy” with Lil Yachty in 2016, which is about to break one billion total streams. He was subsequently selected for the 2017 XXL Freshman Class. KYLE has collaborated with many big-name artists, including Kehlani, K CAMP, Wiz Khalifa and 2 Chainz, and toured with Logic in 2018.

Headliner: Paul Russell

Currently boasting more than 10.5 million monthly listeners, singer and rapper Paul Russell shot into the spotlight in 2023 with the single “Lil Boo Thang.” The track spent months as a TikTok favorite after Russell posted a snippet that blew up, which then led to the official song release. Since then, he has appeared on national TV multiple times, signed to a record label and continued to release music.

Additionally, the festival is introducing “fusions” this year, which are like themed mini-festivals highlighting pillars in Tri-Cities culture.

The Latin Fusion will feature Latin food, vendors and other representation and is entirely Chicano-led.

The Farmers Fusion will feature local produce and goods, like a large farmers market.

The STEM Fusion will feature information and demonstrations on the resources in the region, like an expanded science fair.

The Food Fusion will feature food trucks and stands throughout the venues, offering dishes from local vendors with local ingredients.

The Ferment Fusion will feature products from local wineries and breweries, operating as a beer garden.

The Industry Fusion will feature Q&A workshop-style panels from world-class industry professionals. There will also be a free music industry networking event.

Local vendors and businesses are encouraged to apply to be a part of relevant fusions.

Some of the fusions will be open to the public, so everyone can experience part of the festival, not just those with tickets.

Tickets are available now and will go up in price as time goes on. You can purchase full weekend tickets and the optional afterparty add-on now, and single-day tickets will be available later. Or splurge for a VIP ticket, which includes a swag bag, private bathrooms, a premium view, private bar and other perks.
