ASHLAND − The Ashland County Sheriff's Office TRIAD/SALT program is designed to bridge the gap between senior citizens and law enforcement.

The program address issues and concerns that involve crime prevention and safety in regard to seniors. The goal is to make seniors more aware of crimes they could become a victim of due to high level of trust they have for anyone they meet in the public, according to a press release.

The Ashland County Sheriff's Office joined a national program called TRIAD, which is a partnership of three organizations, enforcement, older adults and community groups. The TRIAD helps educate on crime prevention, assists in recruiting volunteers to help police and other law enforcement agencies, support by identifying community resources and providing referrals to older persons needing more support, and lastly unite by involving the older population, law enforcement, community agencies and and individuals to identify problems within their community.

Senior citizens are welcome to attend the free monthly meetings, which are held at 10 a.m. the first Thursday of each month at the Sheriff's Annex building, 1205 E. Main St., Ashland. The entrance is on the side of the building facing Main Street.
