Tributes Paid to Rapper DMX Following Death at White Plains Hospital

The family of rapper Earl Simmons, widely known by his stage name DMX, announced on April 9 that he had died at New York’s White Plains Hospital, a short distance from Yonkers, where he was raised.

Fans gathered outside the hospital to mourn and pay tribute to the artist.

Footage from DMX fan RichWestand Hav shows people gathered around makeshift memorials at a hospital fence, where Hav leaves a bottle of rosé wine in tribute to the late rapper. “My son, X,” Hav says, “Gotta come show love.”

In a statement, Simmons’ family said: "We are deeply saddened to announce today that our loved one, DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, passed away at 50-years-old at White Plains Hospital with his family by his side after being placed on life support for the past few days.

“Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end. He loved his family with all of his heart and we cherish the times we spent with him. Earl’s music inspired countless fans across the world and his iconic legacy will live on forever.
