Trices to be honored for 42 years of ministry

South Plains Church will honor Pastors Eddie and Pat Trice in closing the chapter of 42 years as senior pastors of South Plains Church on Sunday, Aug. 28.

On June 1, 1980, the Trices started pastoring what was then South Plains Baptist Church. Before this, they had been working as part-time youth ministers and Pastor Eddie was also serving in the capacity of dean of College Relations at South Plains College.

The Trices were youth ministers at the church until May 28, 1980. At this point, they were elected as Interim Pastors. It was decided that Eddie Trice would be made Senior Pastor of South Plains Baptist Church. On Dec. 13, 1981, South Plains Baptist Church officially became South Plains Church. Dedication services were held at 11 a.m. with Dr. Walter Axtell preaching the dedication service. It was at this point that South Plains Church became a fully independent, interdenominational church.

Over the past 42 years, South Plains Church has grown physically, numerically, and most importantly spiritually under the leadership and guidance of Pastors Eddie and Pat Trice.

The future for the South Plains Church congregation is exciting as they will merge with Church on the Rock, based out of Lubbock, under the leadership of Pastor Jackie White and his ministerial team.
