Trick-or-treat fun at MKA

Oct. 30—Kids, teachers, public officials and first responders all dressed up for trick-or-treat at the Madison Kindergarten Academy on Friday.

The school held the event inside the school's gym and welcomed people in the community to attend and hand out candy.

One-by-one children of each class filtered into the gym and received candy from Judge Executive Reagan Taylor (dressed as Jack Sparrow), his wife Kelly, Kentucky State Police troopers, the Boy Scouts, Principal Jennifer Martin and her family, the Madison Central Dance Team, members of the Richmond Fire and Madison County Sheriff's Office, Richmond Economic Development Director David Stipes and his daughter, as well as Richmond Mayor Robert Blythe.

Typically, the event is held in the school's cafeteria, but to accommodate social distancing, the event was moved to the gymnasium.

This was a big improvement from last year when the fun event could not take place in the midst of COVID-19.

"The students love it, the teachers love it. It is just a lot of fun," said Principal Jennifer Martin.

Even the teachers and school staff dress up to participate in the fun. This year, many dressed up as Disney princesses, Mr. Sketch markers, and other favorite characters.

Kids dressed up as Chase from Paw Patrol, princesses, Marvel superheroes, baby Yoda, and more to celebrate Halloween. Trick-or-treat is taking place in the cities of Richmond and Berea on Sunday, Oct. 31, from 6 to 8 p.m.
