When anyone tells me about a beauty product they absolutely swear by, I always lean in and wait for the tea to be spilled. Recently, I was re-introduced to a product that is loved by over 254,000 people on Sephora alone — Sol de Janeiro’s Brazilian Bum Bum Cream.

Though I’d only ever heard good things about this product, I had to wonder if this cream was actually good or just hype. The largest bottle retails for $45, after all. With the weather getting cooler, my skin has been in dire need of extra hydration. This felt like the perfect opportunity to see if this moisturizer could keep me from looking ashy. Here are my unfiltered thoughts.

Its claims:

The Brazilian Bum Bum Cream claims to be a “fast-absorbing body cream that helps tighten and smooth the look of skin.” Before someone asks, yes this product is designed for your “bum bum,” but you can absolutely use it anywhere you’re looking to tighten and smooth.

My first impression is that although the body cream appears thick in the jar, it actually melts like butter once applied to the skin.

The product does leave a slight film on the skin, which I naturally assume helps lock in moisture. I would suggest not using too much product; it can quickly feel unpleasant if too much is applied.

Overall thoughts:

Overall, I think it’ll require a few weeks of active and persistent application to see results. While it wasn’t necessarily the most hydrating cream I’ve ever used, it did a great job of moisturizing my arms and legs. Plus, it has an amazing scent that I really enjoy.

I would recommend getting the smaller size (which only retails for $20) to start. Try that one out for a few weeks before committing to the larger jar. If you love it, the $45 price tag won’t be hard justify. If not, well, you haven’t lost a lot of money and at least you’ll smell really great.
