There are like, a million different flavors of Pop-Tarts out there, so no matter which you try, you kind of know what to expect. It's going to be a pastry with a sweet filling, maybe some icing on the top—you know the drill. But when Pop-Tarts announced that they were releasing pastries with a pretzel crust, I didn't know what to expect. And after tasting them, I still don't know how to describe them exactly. But it's my job...so I will try!

I am personally a fan of "raw" Pop-Tarts right out of the package, but everyone knows that pretzels are better warm and toasty and Pop-Tarts recommended these would be, too. I tried one of each of the flavors, Cinnamon & Sugar and Chocolate.

Once out of the toaster, I got a good look at both of them. You can really see the salt on the crust of each of them, but they look distinctly different, each having different flavored frosting on the top. I also saw why they needed to be toasted: Once put in the toaster, the crust got crispy and delicious-looking. One of our testers recommended putting them in the Air Fryer which is a level of genius I will never attain.

The thing you need to know is that they are delicious. I mean, come on, it's pretzels and chocolate and cinnamon sugar. Those are destined to be good! The flavors were deliciously balanced and nothing about them was sickeningly sweet. It was nice to have a more neutral crust with the filling because you appreciate all the flavors of the filling even more. They're both great, but I am #teamChocolate.

All tasters agreed that these are more of a dessert than a breakfast food, and that's what was likely tripping us up. You have to expand your mind of what a Pop-Tart is, mannnn.

Overall, we loved these. I think fans of savory and sweet will really love them as will people who don't like super-sweet things. They're still a great portable treat, like a traditional Pop-Tart, but something I would keep in my pantry to have as a little treat after dinner, rather than something I want with my coffee. Looking forward to Pop-Tarts' next creation so I can eat a Pop-Tart during every part of my day.
