The phone was ringing off the hook. People wanted to know when The North Jersey Eats Hungry Reporter sandwich would be on the menu.
Stephen Chrisomalis of Steve’s Burgers in Garfield and North Bergen named a sandwich after our food team, and, after we wrote about it and posted it on our @northjerseyeats Instagram, our readers and his customers were very, very eager to try it.
And after having it for lunch on Tuesday, our editors, reporters, photographers and other staffers can see why.
Chrisomalis seasons roast beef with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, rosemary and the special seasoning from his award-winning burgers, then seared on all sides before being slow roasted in the oven.
It's then sliced and layered with fresh mozzarella onto a fresh roll with butter-garlic sauce, and drizzled with his housemade horseradish sauce. Delicious.
On March 21, Chrisomalis delivered The Hungry Reporter, along with his delicious fries and onions rings, to our newsroom, serving about 20 staffers. We made a video about it, and you can watch it here. (He even brought flowers for the table, and Easter candy for dessert.)
He also took over our Instagram account that day, and added the sandwich to his menu for a limited time. (It had more than 100 orders its first day.)
Go try it for yourself. You may not be a reporter, but you won't be hungry!
