When Time magazine named Taylor Swift its 2023 Person of the Year, the accompanying interview revealed how she trained for her world tour, and while the specifics of the workout regimen are a closely guarded secret, the broad strokes were there: singing the complete “Eras” tour setlist on a treadmill, in combination with strength conditioning and choreography practice. Sounds fun, right? Yahoo News Senior Producer Meg Ludemann thought so too — until she gave it a try at home. Watch for her verdict on the unofficial home version of T-Swift’s workout routine.

MEG LUDEMANN: Time magazine awarded cultural icon Taylor Swift as 2023 person of the year. And in her interview she described how she trained for the Eras Tour, so I thought to myself, I need to attempt this just like Miss Americana would. First, Tay-Tay says she runs on the treadmill every day while singing the entire set list out loud.

(SINGING) Romeo, take me, somewhere we can be alone

Taylor says she runs fast for fast songs, and jogs or fast walks for slow songs. But it was really hard not to cry while listening to "Marjorie."

(SINGING) If I didn't know better.

Shockingly the slower song was more difficult.

(SINGING) Talking to me now.

The Eras set list is 45 songs long. I get through about three. Tay also worked with choreographer Mandy Moore and as a dedicated journalist, I had to learn some. She also does strength conditioning and weight training at her gym, and that went as well as expected. Taylor, I knew you were trouble. Look at what you made me do. This workout and me, we are never, ever, getting back together, ever. I think singing while running is definitely a lot of fun, slightly dangerous, and a great way to work on your breath control. Just make sure nobody else can hear you (SINGING) shake it off. Shake it off. Shake it off.
