Trinity Bettendorf celebrates 20 years

Life was different 20 years ago. Gas averaged $1.87, Shrek 2 dominated the box offices and a new hospital was opened in Bettendorf.

UnityPoint Health – Trinity opened on February 18, 2004, and was Bettendorf’s first and only full-service hospital. Over the past two decades, the hospital has seen a 144% increase in its number of patient days, while doubling hospital admissions. Surgical visits have more than tripled, from about 2,000 surgical visits in 2004 to more than 6,000 by the end of 2023.

To help celebrate the hospital’s 20-year anniversary, Bettendorf Mayor Bob Gallagher has proclaimed Sunday, February 18, 2024, as “Trinity Bettendorf Day.”

“It’s been 20 incredible years. I’m so proud of our team’s passion and am immensely honored to work among individuals eager to serve their community,” said UnityPoint Health – Quad Cities President Shawn Morrow.

Trinity Bettendorf has 139 beds and specializes in orthopedics and robotic surgery, emergency services, obstetric and gynecological services. They have a Trinity BirthPlace location with a level II neonatal intensive care unit, cardiac catheterization and peripheral vascular services, medical and surgical intensive care, pain, wound and diagnostic services. ER visits have almost doubled at the hospital from 2004 to 2024 because residents don’t have to travel far in a crisis.

“Trinity Bettendorf has truly become a valuable resource for many patients’ most hard-hitting illnesses,” said Morrow. “Throughout all these years if there’s anything patients and their families have learned it’s that we take their care and journey to wellness seriously because the minute they step in through our doors, they’re our top priority.”

Trinity also staffs the Terrace Park Professional Center, a 60,000 square-foot outpatient medical office building next to the hospital.

“We are proud of the tremendous growth at Trinity Bettendorf over the last two decades and we’re truly honored to reach such an exciting milestone,” said Dana Wilkinson, UnityPoint Health – Trinity Board Chair. “With ongoing investments in services and by recruiting talented team members, we continue to strengthen our commitment to provide high-quality health care for the community.”
